The 1970s sitcom All in the Family forever changed television.

The show aired on CBS for nine seasons from 1971 to 1979 and followed the life of Archie Bunker and his family. All in the Family tackled topics that had rarely, if ever, been addressed on network TV, including racism, antisemitism, abortion and menopause.

"The civil rights issue went right through our series ... That was marvelous stuff," Jean Stapleton, who played Edith Bunker, said in a June 2017 interview with the Archive of American Television. "There's nothing like humor to burst what seems to be an enormous problem." She noted that it was a "great part" of the show.

The original show came to an end when creator Norman Lear and Stapleton were both ready to move on, and it led to seven spinoff series, including The Jeffersons and Archie Bunker's Place.

While All in the Family broke barriers and won awards, the stars navigated relationships and built families off-screen.

Here's everything to know about the real-life partners of the All in the Family cast.

Carroll O'Connor played blue-collar worker and family man Archie Bunker on All in the Family. In real life, he was married to Nancy Fields O'Connor for 50 years until his death on June 21, 2001, per TheWrap.

The couple met in 1951 when they were both students at the University of Montana at Missoula and appeared in the school's production of Life With Father. Carroll and Nancy got married in Ireland later that year. In 1962, they adopted a son, Hugh, who tragically died by suicide in 1995, according to The Malibu Times.

Carroll credited his wife with influencing key decisions in his career, including his All in the Family role. "I turned down the role of Archie Bunker twice until Nancy finally said, 'Now listen here, Carroll, this is the role of a lifetime!' " he once recalled, per TheWrap.

While Carroll became a household name, Nancy built a career of her own as an artist, author, activist, philanthropist and documentary filmmaker.

According to TheWrap, she served on the board of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. In addition, Nancy developed a support group for melanoma cancer research and treatment and advocated for veterans' rights, per The Malibu Times.

Nancy died from complications of Alzheimer's disease on Nov. 10, 2014.

Jean Stapleton was best known for her portrayal of Edith Bunker, the naive yet kind-hearted wife of Archie. Off-screen, she spent 25 years married to concert promoter and theater director William Putch.

Stapleton met Putch in 1956 while performing in a production of Harvey in Washington, D.C., and they married the following year, per The New York Times. The couple later welcomed two children: Pamela and John.

Stapleton and Putch ran the Totem Pole Playhouse, a summer stock theater in Chambersburg, Pa. Stapleton performed there for 25 years, even amid her All in the Family fame.

On Nov. 23, 1983, Putch died of a heart attack at age 59 while directing his wife in a production of The Showoff. Stapleton insisted on performing that night, telling the cast that continuing the show was the best way to honor her husband.

She died at age 90 from natural causes on May 31, 2013, at her home in New York City.

While starring as Gloria Stivic on All in the Family, Sally Struthers developed a close bond with her costar, Carroll O'Connor. It was O'Connor and his wife, Nancy, who introduced Struthers to her future husband, William C. Rader, Struthers told Closer Weekly in August 2021.

When William, a psychiatrist, first tried to ask her out, Struthers' assistant told him she was seeing someone else. Unfazed, he replied, "Well, put me on her list. And if she doesn't have a list, start one."

Struthers was impressed and needed a date who owned a tuxedo for a black-tie dinner, so she decided to give him a call. "By the end of our first date, I was madly in love," she recalled to PEOPLE in February 1981.

Shortly after, they married in 1977 after Struthers herself suggested the idea. The couple welcomed a daughter, Samantha, before divorcing in 1983.

Since then, the actress has been open about staying single, and focusing on her family, friends and career.

Earlier in life, Struthers also briefly dated Elvis Presley, whom she described as polite, kind and soft-hearted during a January 2025 appearance on the Let's Talk About That! With Larry Saperstein and Jacob Bellotti podcast.

Reiner met his second wife, photographer Michele Reiner (née Singer), while directing the 1989 rom-com, When Harry Met Sally... They married that same year and had three kids together.

Rob and Michele were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Dec. 14, 2025, and their son Nick Reiner was arrested shortly thereafter in connection with their killings. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special allegation that he used a knife. Nick will be arraigned in February 2026.

Warning: The following post reports on allegations of child sexual abuse.

NBC has pulled an upcoming episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit featuring actor Timothy Busfield in a guest role. The move comes following news that an arrest warrant was issued on Friday, January 9, for the Emmy Award-winning actor and director on child sex abuse charges involving a young actor.

Busfield was slated to guest star in the Season 27 episode titled "Corrosive," which had been scheduled to air on Thursday, January 15. He was set to play Judge Warren Fels in a story described by the official logline: "An attempt on a respected judge's life is connected to an anonymous video posted to the SVU tip line. Rollins tries to help a victim come to terms with their abuse."

The episode "Corrosive" will be replaced by an episode originally scheduled for January 22, "Fidelis Ad Mortem."

News broke last Friday after Busfield was charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and child abuse. According to Variety, the investigation involves twin boys who were actors on the 2022 series The Cleaning Lady, on which Busfield was directing. According to the report, one of the boys told authorities that Busfield touched him inappropriately when he was seven years old and again a year later when he was eight.

According to the affidavit, the boy stated that "he was afraid to tell anyone because Tim was the Director, and he feared Tim would get mad at him." It was also stated in the affidavit that the young actor was "very afraid of Tim and was relieved when he was off set."

Busfield's role in "Corrosive" would have marked his second appearance on the show. Busfield's first appearance on Law & Order: SVU was in the Season 13 episode "Russian Brides" as a character named Daniel Carter. In addition to acting, he previously directed two episodes of the long-running NBC drama and was a familiar face in the original Law & Order franchise, having both directed and starred in episodes of the flagship show.

No word on if the episode will be rescheduled.

Naomi, who was a part of the iconic country, mother-daughter duo The Judds with Wynonna, died by suicide on April 30, 2022, at the age of 76.

At the time, Wynonna and her younger sister, actress Ashley Judd, 57, announced the news in a joint statement obtained by PEOPLE. Ashley later shared the statement on Instagram.

"Today we sisters experience a tragedy," they wrote. "We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory."

The country legend struggled with her mental health and suffered from suicidal depression. Naomi publicly spoke about her mental health, even writing about it in her 2016 book, River of Time: My Descent into Depression and How I Emerged with Hope.

"Nobody can understand it unless you've been there," the singer told PEOPLE at the time. "Think of your very worst day of your whole life – someone passed away, you lost your job, you found out you were being betrayed, that your child had a rare disease – you can take all of those at once and put them together and that's what depression feels like."

In her 2022 interview with TODAY, Wynonna told the outlet that the death of their mother brought the sisters closer. "Ashley and I are closer than we've been in a long time… We love each other, and we show up for each other," she said. "We don't agree on much, but we support one another."

Ahead of the premiere of the Lifetime docuseries, The Judd Family: Truth Be Told, Naomi's widower, Larry Strickland, told PEOPLE that her death brought the family closer together.

"They were forced together," Strickland said in April 2025. "We all had to come together around this trauma, this tragic event. And it, of course, opened our eyes about how short life can be and how fleeting. Realizing that we lost a wife and mother, it forced us to be together, whether we wanted to or not. It just really drove me closer to them because they're what's left of [Naomi]."

Tensions between Brooklyn Beckham and his parents David and Victoria remain high

A source recently told PEOPLE that David and Victoria have been asking to meet with their son Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz amid an ongoing fracture in their relationship

But another insider close to the situation tells PEOPLE that it's "untrue" the Beckhams have "made efforts to mend things" with their son and his wife

The family feud continues.

On Jan. 9, a source told PEOPLE that David and Victoria Beckham had made attempts to mend fences with their oldest son Brooklyn, 26, and his wife, actress Nicola Peltz, 31, after the four of them had a falling out following Brooklyn and Nicola's 2022 wedding.

"David and Victoria have repeatedly asked Brooklyn and Nicola to meet and talk in order to move forward," the source said, noting that the couple have also always been invited to Beckham family events, like David Beckham receiving a knighthood in October.

"Of course invited Brooklyn and Nicola [to his knighting and after-gathering]. They have always been invited to all family occasions or events, whether private or public," the source added.

However, an insider close to Nicola is refuting that account.

"The claim that Brooklyn and Nicola have been invited to all events and that David and Victoria have made honest efforts to mend things is untrue," the insider says. "Neither parents have reached out to Nicola in almost a year."

Reps for David and Victoria did not immediately respond to request for comment. Reps for Brooklyn and Nicola also did not respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

On Jan. 8, the British publication The Sun reported that Brooklyn allegedly sent his parents a legal notice, warning them that they can only contact him through lawyers, while also insisting that they not "tag" him on social media.

The outlet also claimed that a breach of the "desist" letter (an Instagram "like" from Victoria) was why Brooklyn blocked David, 50, and Victoria, 51, online in the first place. According to The Daily Mail, the decision to block his parents was made by Brooklyn last summer.

— sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

Currently, Brooklyn, Nicola, Victoria and David do not follow each other on Instagram, and Brooklyn and Nicola also do not follow Brooklyn's brothers Romeo and Cruz, the latter of whom revealed on his Instagram Stories, "My mum and dad would never unfollow their son … Let's get the facts right. They woke up blocked … as was I."

The ongoing drama between the couples has been brewing steadily over the past few years. Last May, a source told PEOPLE that the feud initially stemmed from wedding dress drama, with Victoria allegedly offering to make Nicola's gown but then never delivering.

Victoria Beckham/Instagram

Victoria and David Beckham Give Bride and Groom Vibes at King Charles' Black Tie Dinner

"Nicola was painted as a brat for not wearing Victoria Beckham at the wedding," the source said at the time, noting that Nicola had worn Victoria's designs to many events.

Now, nearly four years later, there seems to be no sign of healing.

On New Year's Eve, David shared an Instagram post of his favorite moments of 2025, which featured Romeo, Cruz and Harper, but no Brooklyn. However, David also followed up the grid post with Instagram Stories posts that included his eldest son.

"I love you all so much," David wrote over a black and white image of himself with a young Brooklyn.

And on Jan. 9, an insider told PEOPLE, "David loves his kids," adding, "they are his everything."

Last May, a source reiterated to PEOPLE that David and Victoria were unhappy with the rift with the son.

"The relationship is definitely not beyond repair," an insider told PEOPLE in early May. "They love and are always there for [Brooklyn]. They're just hurt and disappointed that he's now playing no part in family life."

Matt Damon has been married to his wife, Luciana Barroso, for more than 20 years — but turns out her eyes were initially drawn to his best friend Ben Affleck.

"This is f****ing completely true," Damon, 55, began during the Monday, January 12, episode of The Howard Stern Show after being asked if Affleck, 53, was around the night he met his wife. "After we'd been together for a little while, probably a few months, she admitted that — I think I met her best friend from high school and it came out that the two of them went and saw Good Will Hunting together and her best friend thought I was the cute one and she thought Ben was the cute one."

He added, "So she admitted to me... I'm like, 'You got the wrong one?!' She told me that 23 years ago."

When host Howard Stern asked Damon if hearing something like that "stays with you" over the years, Affleck and Damon pointed out that the trio now work together often — Barroso, 49, is a producer on The Rip and Affleck's next directorial project, Animals.

Ben Affleck Third-Wheels Los Angeles Dinner Date With BFF Matt Damon and Wife Luciana

"She's a great producer and a really good friend and yeah, I never got that vibe from her. So I think something I did in real life rubbed it off," Affleck joked, to which Stern, 72, and Damon laughed. "'You know, in person, you're different.'"

"Finally she met him and all that went away," Damon replied.

Stern noted it would be "devastating" if Barroso "left" him and "ran off with Ben," to which Damon wholeheartedly agreed. "If my two favorite people just exited my life? Yeah, that would suck."

Damon and Affleck were the writers and stars of 1997's Good Will Hunting, a film that earned them Oscars for best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Robin Williams. Damon met Barroso six years later in Miami while filming his movie Stuck on You. The pair, who tied the knot in 2005, share four daughters: Alexia, 25, Isabella, 19, Gia, 17, and Stella, 15.

While speaking to Stern, Affleck confessed that he's been "witness to a lot of beautiful lovely things from both of them along the way" in the couple's 20 years of marriage.

"It's a really gorgeous marriage and friendship and two people who when they're apart and independent of one another are one another's partner," he shared, adding that he might not have been present the day they met, but "I have a feeling it's improved."

Damon, for his part, revealed that it was The Rip script supervisor, Steve Gehrke, who was actually with him when he first was introduced to Barroso, but he forgot that fact "for years" due to how enamored he was with her.

"I couldn't remember who I was with 'cause all I remembered was her," he said, which Affleck called a "good husband" comment.

"I'm like, 'But also, you were hammered, and it's a little vague,' " Affleck quipped. "But he's smart enough not to say that."

Matt Damon Reflects on Being 'There' for Ben Affleck Amid Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Lopez Divorces

Affleck added that he should ask for Barroso's friend's number to bring the love square full circle, but Damon had bad news. "She's married, I just thought it was a funny joke — I can't resist," the Odyssey star said, to which Affleck responded, "Story of my life."

Affleck was previously married to Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018 and the pair share three children: Violet, 19, Seraphina, 16, and Samuel, 13. He later got back together with ex-fiancée Jennifer Lopez. The pair wed in 2022, but ultimately called it quits for good three years later.

There was a lot of quivering going on from *Heated Rivalry* star Connor Storrie at the Golden Globes, just not the kind of quivering his legions of followers are used to.

Storrie came out on stage at the 2026 ceremony in Los Angeles with costar Hudson Williams to present the award for Best Supporting TV Actress, which *Adolescence *actress Erin Doherty won.

The bit began with two UFC fighters who emerged to serve as their personal bodyguards against any ravenous super-fans. Though that part of the bit didn't quite land, Storrie followed Williams out to the podium, shaking profusely from nerves of attending their first Globes.

Chappell Roan's "Pink Pony Club" played as Storrie and Williams approached the mic.

"Hi. I'm sorry, it's a little nerve-wracking here being at our very first Golden Globes," Storrie, the Texas native behind Ilya Rozanov, began the comedic act.

Williams suggested taking a deep breath and picturing everyone... He trailed off, letting the audience and viewers at home fill in the blank.

"You know," he eventually said.

Storrie replied, "Yeah, I don't know if that works, considering everyone has seen us...you know."

They questioned whether everyone in the audience has seen *Heated Rivalry* to know what they're talking about, but Storrie joked, "Their trainers have and their moms have, their daughters have." And, you know, a lot of others have.

Despite its massive global success, *Heated Rivalry* was not eligible to receive Golden Globes nominations, due to the fact it was an entirely Canadian-produced TV series; however, the ceremony's producers were clearly keen to incorporate the series' stars into the awards show itself.

Earlier in the night, host Nikki Glaser cracked a joke about the show's hype.

"I don't wanna get too serious, but stories like these don't always get told," she said. "The success of *Heated Rivalry* is proof that American audiences are ready for more shows about hockey, okay?"

The duo kept stealing the show by ranking among the top trending topics on social media platforms with their red carpet appearances. Williams made an appropriately horny joke during an interview with Gayle King, while Storrie's interactions with *The Bear* star Ayo Edebiri made the rounds online.**

2025 was a big year for animated films. But animation wasn't the only thing that made movies big last year.

While the team behind *KPop Demon Hunters *walked to the stage to accept the award for Best Motion Picture - Animated at the 2026 Golden Globes, announcers Marc Malkin and Kevin Frazier regaled the audience with facts about the film and its win.

"You talk to the stars of *KPop Demon Hunters *and you ask them, 'What's been the most special part of this?'" Frazier said, with Malkin responding, "It's James Cameron, who has given a big shout-out to this movie. James Cameron is one of those gazillion viewers of *KPop Demon Hunters*."

*KPop Demon Hunters* indeed set streaming records on Netflix, which doesn't, unlike most of its animated counterparts this year, translate to box office success. Frazier then underlined the success of animation at the box office this year by stating, "And by the way, the top five highest-grossing films worldwide this year were all animated" — which isn't entirely true.**

Though the five highest-grossing films at the global box office this year all contained animated elements, they weren't all animated films. The top two were - China's record breaking *Ne Zha 2*, which grossed over $2.2 billion across its theatrical run, and *Zootopia 2*, which earned $1.6 billion in just a month, after releasing in late November.

The following three entries on the international top 5 liberally employ animation in their respective mise-en-scènes, but wouldn't qualify at the Golden Globes in the Best Animated Film category. Indeed, neither *Avatar: Fire and Ash*, nor Disney's live-action *Lilo & Stitch *remake, nor *A Minecraft Movie *snagged a spot on this year's slate, which also included *Arco*, *Elio*, *Little Amélie or the Character of Rain*, and *Zootopia 2.*

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which determined each year's nominees until they were deposed as the deciding committee in 2022 in the wake of a scandal, revised its rules around animation in 2014. From that point on, films had to be at least 75 percent animated in order to be considered.

Former HFPA president Theo Kingma elaborated that the primary work of that 75 percent or more must be "done by an animator or through hand drawings or stop-motion or pixelation."

That would discount *Avatar*, which primarily uses motion capture to bring the world of Pandora to life. In a December interview with the Motion Picture Association, franchise stunt coordinator and second unit director Garrett Warren even said, "Some people think that *Avatar* is very digital or animated, but it's not animated at all. If there's a wolf, that's a human being on all fours acting like a wolf."

Those rules also discount the No. 4 and No. 5 highest-grossing films at the global box office - *Lilo & Stitch *and *A Minecraft Movie*, which employ CGI elements in a piecemeal fashion. But both movies take place primarily in live-action settings.

The stat doesn't hold domestically either, which swaps *Ne Zha 2 *and *Avatar *out for *Superman*, which doesn't use any animated elements, and *Jurassic World: Rebirth*, which uses CGI imagery in a similar fashion to *Lilo & Stitch *and *Minecraft*.

Following its June release, *KPop Demon Hunters*, which took home the Golden Globe, became the most-watched film in Netflix history, animated or otherwise.

For more than 30 years, Quentin Tarantino has been among the most famous directors not only of his generation, but of all time. Not bad for a high-school dropout who worked at a video store and in bit parts on sitcoms before getting his big Hollywood break.

Tarantino's movies are known for pithy, profane dialogue and are liberally peppered with pop-culture references, graphic violence, and over-the-top cinematic flourishes. They serve as road maps to the filmmaker's own cinematic obsessions, from Hong Kong actioners to old TV Westerns and beyond, and in his later years have doubled as pulpy reimaginings of real history.

It's difficult to overstate how influential Tarantino and his films have been in American cinema since the mid-'90s — so much so that it's probably best to see for yourself. His movies are also, for the most part, commercially successful, which means they stay in circulation even when the studios behind them change.

Here's where to catch up with every stage of Tarantino's arc, from wisecracking upstart to Hollywood royalty.

Reservoir Dogs (1992)

Although Tarantino had already made headway in the industry — writing and selling the script that became *True Romance *(1993), directed by the late Tony Scott — his feature directorial debut still announced the arrival of a major talent.* Reservoir Dogs* was a Sundance sensation, one of a handful of films that made that festival the center of indie film culture in the '90s and into the new millennium.

At the time, buzz around the movie made Tarantino one of the most talked-about filmmakers in town, setting the stage for his later blockbuster success. These days, the tale of Mr. Pink, Mr. Blonde, and their bank-robbing cohorts is a bit more divisive, drawing particular criticism for its use of racial slurs.

Pulp Fiction (1994)

Tarantino's debut made him an indie darling, but *Pulp Fiction* made him a household name. The pop-culture impact of his second film is difficult to overstate: It won top prizes everywhere from the Cannes Film Festival to the MTV Movie Awards and got parodied by *The Simpsons* and *MADtv*. It revived John Travolta's career and made bona fide movie stars of Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman.

The film introduced new slang into the lexicon, repopularized surf rock, and spawned dozens of fast-talking imitators. None of them, however, could match the "cool factor" of Tarantino's film, whose highly quotable dialogue won him the first of his two Academy Awards for screenwriting.

Jackie Brown (1997)

Tarantino followed *Pulp Fiction*'s massive critical and commercial with this smaller, more mature drama, the only Tarantino film to be based on someone else's source material.* Jackie Brown *comes from a place of deep love and respect both for Elmore Leonard — whose novel *Rum Punch* was its basis — and star Pam Grier, who built her reputation on '70s Blaxploitation movies and hadn't had a starring film role in almost 20 years.

Neither had Robert Forster, who stars as Grier's foil (and eventual love interest) alongside Robert De Niro, Bridget Fonda, and a ponytailed Jackson. While its financial and critical response was a bit cooler than its predecessor, *Jackie Brown*'s reputation has only grown over time, now topping many critics' lists as Tarantino's best.

Where to watch *Jackie Brown*: Amazon Prime (to rent)

Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)

Kill Bill: Vol. 1 Uma Thurman

The Bride dons Bruce Lee's duds and takes on the Crazy 88 in 'Kill Bill: Vol. 1'.

The first half of Tarantino's epic action-movie mixtape *Kill Bill* is both ultra-stylish and ultra-violent, qualities that blend to create a kinetic blur of flashing blades and spurting arteries. In this installment, the assassin known — for now — only as the Bride (Uma Thurman) takes her single-minded revenge campaign to Japan (plus a stopover in the American suburbs).

Lucy Liu is one of the Bride's most ruthless ex-cohorts, a samurai sword-wielding yakuza boss with an anime backstory, part of a larger tribute to iconic Asian directors epitomized by the film's famous "House of Blue Leaves" sequence.

Recently revived theatrically as part of the unrated *Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair,* that extended segment, like the movie in general, continues to thrill audiences.

Where to watch *Kill Bill: Vol. 1:* Amazon Prime (to rent)

Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004)

Kill Bill: Vol. 2 David Carradine and Uma Thurman

Let's just say it was a messy breakup. The Bride (Uma Thurman) finally meets her prey (David Carradine).

*Kill Bill* slows down in its talkier second half. Save for a flashback in China, where the Bride — her name finally un-bleeped as Beatrix Kiddo — trains with martial-arts master Pai Mei (Gordon Liu), *Kill Bill: Vol. 2* takes place in Texas and Mexico, a change in location that necessitates a shift in filmmaking style. Tarantino's primary influence here is the Spaghetti Western, reflected in the film's stunning landscape photography and operatic sense of destiny. (Ennio Morricone needle-drops complete the effect.)

As with *Vol. 1,* *Vol. 2 *stands on its own. But both play even better in *The Whole Bloody Affair, *which showcases Thurman's powerful performance with its full, sweeping emotional arc.

Where to watch* Kill Bill: Vol. 2:* Amazon Prime (to rent)

Death Proof (2007)

Grindhouse (2007) Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof Kurt Russell

Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell) wields his weapon in 'Death Proof'.

Andrew Cooper/Weinstein Company

*Death Proof* is the closest Tarantino has come to making a horror movie, combining the structure, plotting, and slow build-up of a classical slasher with his signature patter while painting his kill scenes as thrilling action set pieces. Stuntwoman Zoë Bell highlights a cast of heroines who find themselves in the sights of iconic action-movie cool guy Kurt Russell, playing against type as a sadistic stuntman whose custom reinforced car doubles as his weapon of choice.

*Death Proof* was originally released alongside *Planet Terror, *by QT's longtime friend and collaborator Robert Rodriguez, as part of the duo's ill-fated *Grindhouse *double feature. It flopped in theaters, and many still considered it a lesser Tarantino entry. Then again, his worst is better than many directors' best.

Where to watch *Death Proof:* Amazon Prime (to rent)

Inglourious Basterds (2009)

Film Title: INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS

Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) lets his Nazi captive know who's in charge in 'Inglourious Basterds'. Francois Duhamel/TWC

This marked the beginning of a new era in Tarantino's career. The first of the director's alternate histories, *Inglourious Basterds *(misspelling intentional) tackles the atrocities of WWII, blending cinephilia with Jewish revenge through the story of Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent), a Parisian projectionist whose theater is forced to host a Nazi propaganda movie premiere. Her burgeoning operation happens to coincide with the plans of eponymous, Nazi-scalping commando unit, which has become the scourge of the Third Reich.

The film brought Brad Pitt and Christoph Waltz into the Tarantino-verse, introducing Waltz — already a successful actor in Germany — to American audiences. As if the film's final line didn't make it clear enough already, the director reportedly considers this his masterpiece.

Where to watch *Inglourious Basterds: *Amazon Prime (to rent)

Django Unchained (2012)

DJANGO UNCHAINED (2012) (L-R) CHRISTOPH WALTZ and JAMIE FOXX

Christoph Waltz and Jamie Foxx, on their way to collect another bounty in 'Django Unchained'.

Andrew Cooper/Weinstein Company

Tarantino won his second Oscar for this revisionist Western, the filmmaker's highest-grossing movie to date.* *Like* Basterds*, *Django Unchained* takes a darkly comedic approach to righting historical wrongs. Its formerly enslaved title character, played by Jamie Foxx, is recruited by German bounty hunter King Schultz (Waltz) for a series of bounties leading up to a violent revenge plot against sadistic plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), who just so happens to be in possession of Django's wife, Hildi (Kerry Washington).

Jackson is back in the QT fold as well, in a character that reveals himself as far more than what he appears to be. Upon its release, the film was the subject of both praise — including five Academy Award nominations — and controversy.

Where to watch *Django Unchained*: Amazon Prime (to buy)

The Hateful Eight (2015)

THE HATEFUL EIGHT (2015) (L-R) TIM ROTH, KURT RUSSELL, and JENNIFER JASON LEIGH

English Pete, The Hangman, and Daisy Domergue eye each other in 'The Hateful Eight'.

Andrew Cooper/ The Weinstein Company

One might call the production of *The Hateful Eight* "troubled." Tarantino's script leaked online in January 2014, leading the director to consider shelving the project before salvaging it with revisions and a live read of the screenplay later that year. The frustration and conflict behind its conception translates into the film, a snowy Western chamber piece that — despite being presented in "glorious 70mm" — mostly takes place in a single (and very cold) room.

With a cast that's equal parts Tarantino regulars and new (but famous) faces like Walton Goggins and Jennifer Jason Leigh, the pleasures of a Tarantino movie are all present here, but with an undertone that's, well, hateful.

Where to watch *The Hateful Eight*: Netflix

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood (2019)

Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt star in ONCE UPON TIME IN HOLLYWOOD

He's Rick ****ing Dalton, and don't you forget it: Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt in 'Hollywood'.

Andrew Cooper/Columbia

He still technically owes us one more according to his planned 10-film career arc (he counts *Kill Bill* as one movie, which is fair), but if *Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood *ends up being Tarantino's last feature, it will be a fitting coda. Compared to early work like *Reservoir Dogs* and* Pulp Fiction,* *Once Upon a Time *is more mature and reflective, the product of a director who's been successful for decades, now grappling with his place in Hollywood and the world.

It's also another of his alternate histories, a love letter to late actress Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) and a passing of the baton to a new generation of actors like Margaret Qualley, Austin Butler, Mikey Madison, and Maya Hawke — daughter of Uma Thurman, Tarantino's longtime muse.
