Evgeni Malkin wants to run it back one last time in Pittsburgh. Whether he will is anyone's guess

To go deeper than the first round will require another leap. WhetherEvgeni Malkingets a chance to be a part of it is anyone's guess. Malkin's included.

The Russian star, who is set to become a free agent in July, would like to return to the Penguins for a 21st and almost certainly final season. Yet Malkin also understands general manager Kyle Dubas is trying to build a roster that will make Pittsburgh a perennial contender, and having a future Hall of Fame forward who will turn 40 in August might not be part of that plan.

“It’s not easy for Kyle, maybe he wants new blood here,” Malkin said on Friday, less than 48 hours after the Penguins' bounce-back season ended witha Game 6 lossto rival Philadelphia. “I understand business. I understand he wants maybe new team, see new faces here.”

Dubas, who has spent months being polite but noncommittal while discussing Malkin's status, enters the offseason with over $45 million in salary cap space. Whether he wants to spend a portion of it on a three-time Stanley Cup winner who is beloved in Pittsburgh but also missed 20 games this season due to injury is uncertain.

What's not is Malkin's commitment to playing next year, even if it's outside of the only NHL organization he's ever known. Malkin finished with 61 points in 56 games after moving from center to wing. He added a pair of goals against the Flyers in a season he described as “not bad."

“It’s a little bit tough,” he said. “But I feel I can play next year for sure.”

Malkin, captain Sidney Crosbyand defensemanKris Letangjust finished up their 20th season together, the longest run by a trio of teammates in major North American professional sports. Letang is under contract for two more seasons, while Crosby is eligible for another contract extension this summer.

Crosby, the only player in NHL history to average a point a game in 21 straight years, made it very clear his preference would be to run it back one last time with his good friend.

“For as long as (Malkin's) played here I think he’s been part of setting the standard,” Crosby said. "And just on top of all the experiences we’ve shared, you build that belief and trust and bond and that’s something you’ve had over the course of time.”

Malkin's future is hardly the only uncertainty the Penguins face. While first-year coachDan Muse— a finalist for the Jack Adams award as the NHL's Coach of the Year — won raves for his positivity and meticulous preparation, the league's third-highest scoring team also sputtered while falling into a 3-0 hole to the Flyers.

Though Pittsburgh carried play as the series wore on, it was far too late as Philadelphia's younger legs won out in the end, though Crosby doesn't want the bitterness of the way the season ended to blot out all the good things that came along the way.

“A lot of guys had career years, I think that’s a reflection of guys’ individual play but also as a group," he said.

The list of players who enjoyed breakout seasons included forward Anthony Mantha, who poured in a career-best 33 goals, and forward Egor Chinakov, who had 18 goals in 43 games after being acquired from Columbus in December.

Mantha will be a free agent and figures to be in line for a raise over the $2.5 million he made this season. Chinakov is a restricted free agent, and Pittsburgh would likely match any offer the 25-year-old would receive.

Rookie Ben Kindel, all of 18, scored 17 goals and massive 6-foot-7 forward Elmer Soderblom made an impact after arriving from Detroit.

At the NHL level, the goalie situation is unsettled.Stuart Skinner, brought over in a swap with Edmonton in December, will be a free agent and Arturs Silovs — who backstopped both of Pittsburgh's playoff wins and nearly stole Game 6 in Philadelphia — will be a restricted free agent.

The Penguins have 22-year-old Sergei Murashov waiting in the wings and he will almost certainly receive every opportunity to claim the starting job when training camp begins in September.

It will be four long and likely eventful months until Pittsburgh reconvenes. The club showed tangible proof this year that Dubas' painstaking organizational overhaul is starting to pay off.

The gap between the Penguins and the teams that will take the ice when the second round begins next week is smaller than it was a year ago. Yet it still exists.

Malkin would like to be part of the process of narrowing it even further alongside the two men who have become like brothers.

“I hope we play together one more year,” he said. "If not, we have great 20 years together and never forget.”

President Donald Trump's reality TV days are long done, but his eldest son's on-screen era could just be starting.

The president responded to rumors that his son, Donald Trump Jr., 48, could succeed Trump not in the White House but in a reboot of the hit series "The Apprentice."

Speculation that his son could host a new version of the series was brought up to the president at the Oval Office on April 30, who said, "I've been hearing that."

"He's a good guy. He'd be probably good. He's got a little charisma going, you'd need a little charisma for that," he told reporters.

President Donald Trump (C), flanked by his sons Eric Trump (R) and Donald Trump Jr. (L) cuts the ribbon on the first tee to officially open the Trump International Golf Links course in Balmedie, Aberdeenshire, north east Scotland on July 29, 2025.

He confirmed that the rumors were on his radar, adding, "Yeah, they told me about it. We'll see."

USA TODAY has reached out to the Trump Organization, where Donald Trump Jr. serves as executive vice president, for comment.

The original business competition series, which aired from 2004 to 2017, followed 16 contestants vying for a job as they competed in business-related challenges to dodge Trump's catchphrase "You're fired." The show helped boost Trump to celebrity status long before he even considered running for office.

Several spinoffs of the original show followed suit, including "The Celebrity Apprentice," "The Ultimate Merger" and "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart."

Donald Trump Jr. appeared on the original series as an advisor alongside two of the president's other children, Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump.

All seven seasons of the show were added to Amazon Prime Video's catalog in March 2025.

Mitch Marner tallies 3 points as Knights KO Mammoth in Game 6

Mitch Marner scored two goals and had an assist as the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Utah Mammoth 5-1 to clinch their first-round Western Conference playoff series in Game 6 on Friday in Salt Lake City.

Field Level Media

It was the sixth career three-point playoff game for Marner, tying his postseason high. Brett Howden scored a goal for the third straight game, and Colton Sissons and Cole Smith also scored goals for Vegas, which advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs for the sixth time in its nine-year history.

Carter Hart made 22 saves for the Golden Knights, who will face the Anaheim Ducks in the Western Conference semifinals. Anaheim eliminated the two-time defending conference champion Edmonton Oilers in six games.

"They're a team that has great skill, make a lot of plays, come at you with a lot of speed," Marner said of the Ducks. "Just got to make sure we're disciplined in our play and our positioning, make sure we're playing a heavy, down-low game."

Kailer Yamamoto scored a goal and Karel Vejmelka finished with 21 saves for Utah, which was playing its first playoff series since the franchise moved from Arizona in April 2024.

Vegas took a 1-0 lead at the 15:02 mark of the first period. Marner's shot from the high slot caromed off the end boards straight to Howden parked alone by the left post. Howden swept in a shot for his fourth goal in three games.

The Golden Knights came within inches of doubling the lead early in the second period. Tomas Hertl's attempt from the left circle squeaked past Vejmelka and was within inches of the goal line before the Mammoth goalie reached back and knocked it away.

Marner made it 2-0 with 44.1 seconds left in the second period. His first goal of the playoffs, a slap shot from the top of the right circle, went past Vejmelka's glove side and inside the far left corner.

It snapped a 10-game goal drought in the playoffs for Marner that dated back to last season, when he was playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"This is what I hoped for when I came to Vegas," Marner said. "There's a lot more work to do to keep going. Get the rest we need here and get ready for Anaheim."

Utah cut the deficit to 2-1 with 12:19 remaining in the third period when Yamamoto came down the right wing and snapped a shot past Hart's stick side.

Vegas restored the two-goal margin just 1:58 later when Sissons shoveled the rebound of a Brayden McNabb point shot past Vejmelka's stick side.

"When you're looking to put a team away, you have to have that killer instinct," said Mark Stone, who had an assist on Howden's goal. "I thought we did. They're a good hockey team. I thought we took away their time and space in the third period and really got back to our identity, which is put pucks behind, get some turnovers and making some plays."

Marner sealed the win by netting a power-play goal with 7:51 to go, ripping in a rebound of a Shea Theodore shot from the low slot.

Utah pulled Vejmelka for an extra attacker with 4:15 left, and Smith added an empty-netter from inside his own blue line with 3:36 remaining to end the scoring.

"I don't know what to tell you tonight," Mammoth coach Andre Tourigny said. "It hurt. I didn't have that on my bingo card. I was really confident that we would go to Vegas tomorrow (for Game 7 on Sunday). I'm mad. I'm disappointed. I'm not mad at the players. I'm mad at the fact that we lost."

Hunting for the Holy Grail of PEZ dispensers 05:30

If you were a kid in the United States any time in the last 74 or so years, there's a pretty good chance at some point, you had a PEZ dispenser. But you probably had no idea the long strange journey that PEZ candies took, to become part of American life.

According to PEZ historian Shawn Peterson, who also works for the company, the candies – peppermint candies, to be specific – were invented in Austria in 1927 by Eduard Haas III, who took three letters from the German word for "Peppermint" and combined them to make PEZ … and eventually candy history.

"They actually tried to sell it as an anti-smoking device," said Peterson. "A way to freshen your breath, and an alternative to smoking, very much ahead of his time. And [Haas] had a lot of success with it, and this is how it was sold throughout Europe and other parts of the world."

But when the PEZ company came to America in 1952, it was a failure. No one wanted these little mints that came out of a plastic cartridge. "Somebody got the thought and said, you know, we've got this new dispenser. Maybe we add a dimensional cartoon character to the top and we'll change from peppermint to fruit flavors. Let's shift the marketing to children. And it worked."

PEZ dispensers were originally without character heads. Once added, sales began to pop. / Credit: CBS News

Did it ever! These days, PEZ U.S. makes some five billion candies a year, which are then rolled together, and paired with dispensers at its headquarters in Orange, Connecticut.

But is this a candy, or a toy?

Collector Brian Trauman was asked if he liked the candy: "I try the new candy flavors when they come out, but I don't eat the candy," he said.

Trauman could be forgiven for not eating all the PEZ candy that goes with his collection of dispensers, because that could take a few lifetimes. Trauman is the Guinness record holder for the most number of unique PEZ dispensers in a private collection. "The record is 6,481, but that was as of the end of 2024, and I've added maybe 50 or so since," he said.

Trauman's collection is so vast, and so valuable, he says he recently turned down an offer to sell it for a number in the high six figures. And yet, even he has a white whale. He's looking for the Holy Grail of PEZ collecting, a story involving none other than JFK himself.

Harry and Meghan PEZ dispensers. / Credit: CBS News

"John F. Kennedy was visiting Linz, Austria, which is where PEZ is headquartered," he said. "And as a gift to him, PEZ gave him a donkey PEZ dispenser, Bozo the Clown, and a Golden Glow (which is one without a head). Ultimately it was returned to PEZ, because it came with candy, and presidents can't accept food. Whether everything was returned or just the candy is somewhat unclear; no one knows what happened to that precise dispenser."

Then one day, Shawn Peterson, over at PEZ, called Trauman up with incredible news: one of the ultra-rare donkey dispensers, like the one JFK had been gifted in Austria in 1961, had been located – and its owner wanted to sell.

"And I said, 'I've got a backpack at my feet here with $10,000 in cash, would you be interested?'" Trauman recalled. "And he [says], 'Can I have a minute with my wife?' And so, we gave them a minute" – and then made the deal with a bag of cold hard cash, in exchange for an ultra-rare piece of plastic originally meant just to deliver candy to some kid's mouth.

When PEZ were first introduced in the United States, they failed - but then character heads were attached to the pop-up dispensers, and a candy legend was born. / Credit: CBS News

The fact that most PEZ dispensers were given to children – not the demographic that's the greatest at hanging on to stuff – meant lots of dispensers ended up in toyboxes. Like Trauman, Shawn Peterson has made it his life's work to scour those toyboxes, to try and recover and preserve every single PEZ dispenser ever created, many of which are on display at the PEZ Visitor Center, which Shawn moved to Connecticut to supervise the building of, bringing his own valuable collection to put on display.

And yet, Peterson says he is still not done – he's still acquiring PEZ dispensers, much to the dismay of his wife: "There's still packages [showing] up. I don't buy like I used to, but yeah, I'm still interested. There's things out there that I'd like to have."

Tommy Dorfman tore into a fellow passenger she says she caught sending transphobic texts about her.

The 13 Reasons Why actress took photos of the texts she says she saw while they were on a flight.

She captioned her message, "Why post, you may wonder? Because I can and this man is an alt-right vampire."

Tommy Dorfman is slamming a fellow passenger on her recent flight.

The 13 Reasons Why actress, who came out as transgender in 2021, shared a series of photos on Instagram showing an older man texting various contacts about his discomfort over sharing a row with a trans traveler.

"I am in the first aisle of first class. Guess what is sitting next to me? A f---ing transsexual in the midst of going from a man to a woman," the man's text message read. "Just my luck. I was hoping for a hot babe!!"

He added, "Two and a half hours of sitting next to this freak!!"

Dorfman's photos showed the passenger texting the same message to several different recipients.

The actress shared her reaction to her seatmate's cruelty in her caption.

"The audacity of this man so blatantly blasting off texts about me (sparing you the deeply misogynistic and revolting comments on our flight attendants in contrast to my freak) only reaffirms the choices I've made for myself to feel safe and comfortable in my body and spirit," she wrote. "This does come at the cost of safety and comfort in the world, especially in America, and that's not without consequence internally and externally. I am lucky to have the life I have, the ability to fly freely (for now), and even post s--- like this."

Dorfman also reflected on her appearance. "Objectively, I know I'm not 'passing' and I'm 'bricky' and 'clocky,' but passing hasn't been the point for me, nor should it be for any trans person," she wrote. "We are all allowed to evolve in any way that feels true, and that evolution can expand and contract. It's always been about alignment and autonomy for my own comfort, not the comfort of others or the expectations of society."

In one of the photos, the passenger received responses from a contact named Samantha, who wrote back, "Just remember many people you love are LGBTQ+ and this country sucks for them right now. Be kind!"

Dorfman gave Samantha a shout-out at the end of her caption. "And why post, you may wonder? Because I can and this man is an alt-right vampire AND because Samantha deserves her flowers," she wrote.

The Jane the Virgin actress also shared a video of the passenger texting another contact, "The stewardess in the first-class cabin is hot as hell!!!! Offsets the freak!!"

In another one of the images, a recipient named Dave joked about the man's request for "a hot babe."

"You got one," Dave wrote. "A brand-new one!"

Dorfman received an outpouring of support in the comments section of her post, including from Amanda Seyfried, who wrote, "Scared and dumb, all of 'em 'cept Sam."

Highlights -

Zayn cancels all U.S. KONNAKOL Tour dates weeks after a mysterious April hospitalization.

Tour slashed from 32 shows to 9; UK and Latin America dates remain on schedule.

A source says Zayn was seeking the “No. 1 cardiologist in the world” for treatment.

Zayn Malik is not going to be hitting the road stateside anytime soon. The former One Direction singer has officially canceled all U.S. dates for his 2026 KONNAKOL Tour, just weeks after a health scare left him hospitalized under circumstances that remain largely under wraps.

The announcement came via Zayn’s Instagram Stories on May 1, where the singer addressed fans directly, and struck a delicate balance between reassuring them and keeping details about exactly what put him in a hospital bed last month vague.

“To my fans: Thank you so much for all the support and love you’ve shown me on the album release and more importantly your love, prayers, and well wishes for my health. I’ve felt it, and it’s meant the world. I’ve been at home recovering and I’m doing well and will be better and stronger than before.”

He continued, breaking the tour news as gently as he could: “I’ve had to take another look at my schedule for the months ahead and have to reduce the number of shows on the KONNAKOL Tour. I want to make sure I still get out and see as many of you as I possibly can. I’m really looking forward to playing these shows for you, and I hope to see the rest of you around the world very soon. Big Love, Z.”

The scale of the cuts is significant. The tour, which was supposed to be Zayn’s first-ever headlining arena run as a solo artist, has been slashed from 32 shows down to just 9. All U.S. dates are gone. A handful of European stops, including Dublin, Glasgow, and Birmingham, have also been pulled. The tour now kicks off May 23 in London, followed by Manchester on May 24, three dates in Mexico in June, and South American stops in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, and Peru in October.

The health backstory here is what makes all of this especially concerning. Zayn first revealed he’d been hospitalized on April 17 — the same day he dropped his new album, Konnakol — posting a photo from a hospital bed to his Instagram Stories. He was cryptic then, too.

“To my fans – Thank you to all of you for your love & support now & always – been a long week and am still unexpectedly recovering. Heartbroken that I can’t see you all this week, I wouldn’t be in the place I am today without you guys and am so thankful for your understanding. Thank you to the incredible hospital staff of Drs, nurses, cardiologist, management, admin and everyone who has helped along the way and continue to. You are all legends!”

The shout-out to a cardiologist raised eyebrows at the time. A source told People that Zayn was seeking help from the “No. 1 cardiologist in the world,” and that “he’s still working through his health issues.” No official diagnosis has been shared publicly.

The hospitalization also forced Zayn to cancel an album listening event and Q&A session in Kingston, U.K., earlier in April — one of the early signals that his health situation was more serious than a run-of-the-mill illness.

On the family front, Zayn’s cousin Sasha clarified on her own Instagram Stories that a request redirecting fans from sending flowers to making charitable donations — specifically to the Palestine Project — was not directly related to Zayn’s condition. “To clarify, the requests made to @thehiddenbouquet to send flowers to myself and my family were purely out of support & appreciation for our fundraiser throughout Ramadan,” she wrote, adding that the florist had simply been overwhelmed with orders.

Fan reaction to the U.S. cancellation has been supportive and emotional. “We love you, Zayn,” one fan commented. “Regardless of anything, I wish you good health, happiness and growth. I’m happy to hear you’re recovering and getting better.”

For now, Zayn’s focus appears to be his recovery — and for fans who were counting on those U.S. tour stops, the wait for answers (and a rescheduled show) continues. His health remains the priority, and if that Instagram post is any indication, he’s at least feeling optimistic about what comes next.
