Every Year After, a new Amazon Prime adaptation of Carley Fortune's debut novel Every Summer After, is now streaming.

Fortune is the author of five best-selling romance novels.

Her 2025 book, One Golden Summer, is a sequel to Every Summer After.

Amazon Prime Video is sending our hearts aflutter with the new romance seriesEvery Year After, based on the best-selling novel Every Summer After by Carley Fortune.

Starring Sadie Soverall and Matt Cornett, the series tracks the friends-to-enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Persephone "Percy" Fraser and Sam Florek.

Showrunner Amy B. Harris recently told Entertainment Weekly that she has at least five seasons planned for Every Year After, which is destined to make Fortune an even bigger name. It's also one of two upcoming adaptations of her novels.

Fortune has published a total of five books so far, including two set in the same universe. If you're eager to dive in, here's how to read all of her books in order.

Every Summer After (2022)

Every Summer After is the novel that started it all. Told over the course of six years (and one weekend), the story follows Percy and Sam, friends who spent every summer together as teens in Barry's Bay until a betrayal tore the once-inseparable duo apart. Now, a decade later, Percy returns to Barry's Bay for a funeral and reconnects with Sam, forcing them to confront their feelings for one another and see if they can overcome the mistake that ended their relationship.

As Fortune's first novel, it makes the most sense to start with Every Summer After. On Instagram, the author herself urged prospective fans to read this one before diving into One Golden Summer, which is set in the same universe, as the latter "will 100% spoil the events of [Every Summer After]."

If you love Before Sunrise (1995) and its sequels, Fortune's second novel is for you. Meet Me at the Lake concerns the excellently named Fern Brookbanks, who met charming artist Will Baxter during a life-changing trip to Toronto in her 20s. Fern and Will fell head over heels in love with each other, and promised to reunite in one year at the end of a perfect day together. Will broke his promise, and Fern has spent the years since thinking about him and what might have been.

Ten years later, Fern is sorting through the mess of running her mom's lakeside resort and dealing with her ex-boyfriend when Will walks back into her life with a conspicuous offer to help.

An adaptation is currently in development at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Archewell Productions company.

Fortune's third novel continues the summertime theme. This Summer Will Be Different centers on Lucy, a florist from Toronto who decides to take a vacation on Prince Edward Island to visit her best friend, Bridget. Lucy meets a handsome oyster shucker and the pair share a steamy night together, but the next day she discovers that he's actually Felix, Bridget's brother. And Bridget is very strict about her friends not dating her brother.

Although Lucy is determined not to hook up with Felix again, the two continue their affair every summer when Lucy visits PEI. When Bridget bails on her wedding and runs off to the island, Lucy follows, leading her right back to Felix.

This Summer Will Be Different is also set for an adaptation, with Netflix Canada recently announcing a 10-episode series.

As previously mentioned, Fortune's fourth novel, One Golden Summer,is set in the same universe as Every Summer After and really should be read in publication order. The protagonist of the 2025 novel is a photographer named Alice, who spent one life-changing summer at Barry's Bay, where she took the photo that launched her professional career.

When her grandmother gets injured, Alice decides they should return to Barry's Bay, where she reconnects with one of the subjects of that famous photo — Charlie Florek. Alice and Charlie embark on a slow-burn romance that forces Alice to put her camera down and let herself be vulnerable for once.

Fortune's fifth and most recent novel is Our Perfect Storm. Largely set in scenic Tofino, British Columbia, the story follows Frankie and George, who have been best friends since they were just 8 years old. As adults, they've drifted apart, but on the eve of Frankie's wedding day, George miraculously reappears.

Unfortunately, Frankie's fiancé ditches her at the altar — a break-up he announces not to her face, but in a note (cue traumatic flashbacks to Sex and the City's Jack Berger). George proposes that he and Frankie take her planned honeymoon to Tofino, where they spend a week together that forces them to confront their true feelings for each other once and for all.
