Jesse Plemons and Yorgos Lanthimos know people have lots to say and think about their new movie *Bugonia*. That's the point.

That's the fun part. You hope people are affected differently by a film," Plemons says on the latest episode of **'s *The Awardist* podcast. "I think those are always the types of movies that I enjoy most, the ones that stay with you that you wake up thinking about, and then when you revisit them, you might have a completely different take on it."

The conversation around the movie started with the first trailer, when audiences learned the plot: two cousins (played by Plemons and Aidan Delbis) kidnap Michelle Fuller (Emma Stone), the CEO of a pharmaceutical company, who they believe to be an alien sent to destroy Earth. Debates over whether she might be are fun social media fodder, but Lanthimos was most interested in everything else there was to "discover and debate with yourself and others," he says — which is part of what got his attention in writer Will Tracy's script.**

"I found it very funny. It got me excited to share it with someone, which was immediately Emma Stone, like, the same night," Lanthimos recalls. "Just managing to combine the fact that it's entertaining and funny, but with really profound questions and themes, interesting characters. This particular one was also felt different to me than what I've done before because it was so contained and so concentrated on these three characters. *The Favourite* was kind of the same way, too, but very different. So there's all these elements that got me excited, and it rarely happens, to be honest."**

Plemons, who previously worked with Lanthimos on last year's *Kinds of Kindness* — a three-part anthology where the cast played different characters — says he "immediately had a real love" for his *Bugonia* character, Teddy, a conspiracy theorist who also happens to be a beekeeper, worried that Michelle's alien species, Andromedans, will kill off honeybees too.**

"Because the script was so well written, and there are some very dark elements and aspects to Teddy, but because of the way Will wrote him, I felt it was very clear to me that Teddy had this story that he was telling himself and he told himself what role he was in this story and in his mind the fate of humanity is solely on his shoulders," Plemons says of the character, who thinks he's going to be the hero of this story. But, Plemons notes, "It's tricky territory because there's some dark scenes, but almost in the way that like a child wants to be a superhero was kind of something that I thought about."

Plemons, a supporting actor Oscar nominee for 2021's *The Power of the Dog*, is getting some of the best reviews of his 25-year career, some saying he's at the top of his game. But did he feel like the performance was that good when it was happening?

"In my experience, if you get that feeling, you should be concerned because you're probably wrong," he quips." No is the easy [answer] — like, rarely. I will say, the only days where I really feel like I can sleep easy are the ones where we've shot a scene so many ways [and] at the end of the day, if I'm replaying something, I think I don't know what else I could have tried, then I find some level of peace. But that's kind of the extent of it, because there's no worse feeling than the drive home or eating dinner and just like, *why didn't I think of that*?"

- *Zootopia 2 *topped the Thanksgiving weekend box office with an astounding $156 million domestic gross and an additional $400 million abroad.

- *Wicked: For Good*, last weekend's big winner, fell to the No. 2 spot on both charts, but still scared up $62.8 million domestically in its second weekend.

- It isn't likely any title on next weekend's release calendar has the power to topple both *Wicked *and *Zootopia*, but one contender is horror sequel *Five Nights at Freddy's 2*.

If *Wicked: For Good *was going to fall from box office grace after only one week at the top spot, at least Elphaba will be glad that it was because of a bunch of talking animals.

*Zootopia 2 *ran wild at the box office this Thanksgiving weekend, topping the domestic chart with $156 million (including Wednesday and Thursday previews) and the international chart with $400 million, making for a staggering cumulative premiere gross of $556 million globally, per Comscore.

That represented a decisive victory against its big sequel competitor, which would have run roughshod over any other new release this season. *Wicked: For Good *still fared quite well, conjuring up a bounteous $62.8 million in its second weekend domestically ($93 million when expanded to five days). That makes for a 57 percent drop from its $150 million premiere last weekend, but there's no doubt this film has legs that will confidently walk it all the way through the holidays.

See the new 'Zootopia 2' cast compared to the critters they voice

Featuring the voices of stars like Shakira, Quinta Brunson, and Macaulay Culkin, *Zootopia 2 *likely performed so exceedingly well due to the relative recent dearth of family films on the release calendar. Before this weekend, the only studio to release animated family fare into theaters this month was Universal, and it was a limited, 25th anniversary re-release of 2000's *Chicken Run*.

*Zootopia 2 *not only bested *Wicked*'s thrillifying conclusion at the box office this weekend, but it far surpassed the proceeds from its predecessor's premiere. *Zootopia *opened to $75 million in 2016. Even taking out the preview revenue, *Zootopia 2 *still earned $96.8 million at the Thanksgiving box office. With a global start in excess of half a million, the sequel is on track to blow past the first film's global end-run of $1 billion.

Elsewhere on the domestic and global charts, two holdovers proved their staying power. ****

*Now You See Me: Now You Don't* held fast to the No. 3 spot domestically with a week three take of $7 million, dropping only 22 percent from last week. That's after a reduction of 311 screens, too. In No. 4, *Predator Badlands *turned in a remarkably similar performance, dropping only 27 percent in week four with a $4.8 million take, but adding up to $85 million cumulatively, where the illusionist thriller threequel currently boasts $49.6 million overall at the domestic box office.

In the weekend's other new premieres, A24's afterlife rom-com *Eternity *scored a strong $5.2 million on its estimated $2 million budget, and Chloe Zhao's Oscar hopeful *Hamnet *earned $1.3 million in its one-weekend limited release.

Next week, *Zootopia 2 *and *Wicked: For Good *will likely block any would-be usurpers at the box office.

*Hamnet* opens wide, but given its scaling, subject matter, and targeting of awards voters, rather than general audiences, the chances of it leaping to No. 1 are virtually impossible. What may stand a chance, albeit a slim one, is Universal and Blumhouse's *Five Nights at Freddy's 2*.

The animatronic horror with a slight bend towards kids arrives in the long shadow cast by the first film's gangbusters debut. In 2023, *Five Nights at Freddy's *became a Halloween weekend hit with an $80 million premiere, resulting in a lifetime global gross of $291.5 million. Box office watchers will have to wait to find out if horror is the correct wedge to disrupt what looks from here to be *Wicked *and *Zootopia*'s assured dominance in the first weekend of December.

The film tracks Marwan as he initially offers suggestions for peaceful solutions to their conflict with Israel, only to be rebuked by the president, eventually leading him to offer his intel to the Israeli government. Marwan Kenzari (*Aladdin*, *Black Adam*) portrays the real-life spy, who some believed to be a double agent. The film earned mostly positive reviews, with praise for its engrossing storytelling and Kenzari's performance. —*K.J.*

The Gray Man (2022)

Ken vs. Captain America! While on a mission, CIA agent Six (Ryan Gosling) learns his supervisor Carmichael (Regé-Jean Page) is running unsanctioned assassination operations. When Six refuses to play ball, Carmichael sends smarmy, murderous, child kidnapper Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans) to eliminate him, no matter how much collateral damage it causes. While the film wasn't shown much love by critics, the choice to cast two of Hollywood's most beloved leading men opposite each other was a strong one.

According to EW's critic, "Evans, smirking like a catbird, is the movie's main antagonist, and his pairing with Gosling is the pretty-man *Godzilla vs. Kong* most viewers came to see." Evans' snarky banter — ripped straight from the Movie Villain 101 playbook — combined with Gosling's Jason Bourne impression make for a wild ride. —*Terry Terrones*

Two former college friends on opposite sides of the coming Second World War conspire to take down Hitler in this 2022 spy thriller. Based on the historical novel *Munich* by Robert Harris, the film centers on Hugh Legat, a private secretary for British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, and Paul von Hartmann, a translator for the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. With Chamberlain hoping to reach a peaceful agreement, Legat conspires with Hartmann to stop the dictator while they still can.

While it's hard to ignore how this story would ultimately end in reality, there is added resonance in viewing a historical account (however fictionalized its players may be) of the people who stuck their necks out to prevent catastrophe. George MacKay (*1917*) and Jannis Niewöhner play the friends/co-conspirators, while Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons portrays Chamberlain, with Sandra Hüller (*Toni Erdmann*) and Jessica Brown Findlay (*Downton Abbey*) filling out the cast. —*K.J.*

The plot behind *Operation Mincemeat* might sound implausible if it weren't true. Taking place during World War II, Lt. Cmdr. Ewen Montagu (Colin Firth) strategizes with intelligence officer Charles Cholmondeley (Matthew Macfadyen) to execute Operation Mincemeat. The plan: In order to trick the Nazis into thinking the Allies will invade from Greece rather than Sicily, they plant misleading papers on a corpse, passing him off as a deceased captain.

Directed by John Madden (*Shakespeare in Love*, *Miss Sloane*), the film provides old-school thrills, with a massive ensemble of beloved British actors. Also of note is a fun inclusion by Johnny Flynn as Ian Fleming, the mastermind behind the James Bond book series. —*K.J.*

Enjoyable spy movies don't always have to take themselves seriously, as *Red Notice*, an action spy comedy, clearly demonstrates. John Hartley (Dwayne Johnson) is an FBI criminal profiler assigned to assist an Interpol agent in catching international art thief Nolan Booth (Ryan Reynolds). But when the duo are both outwitted by Booth's rival, the Bishop (Gal Gadot), the film turns into a globe-trotting romp, allowing for a bevy of one-liners at Dwayne Johnson's expense, and plot twists galore.

In an interview with EW, director Rawson Marshall Thurber compares *Red Notice* to "*Fast & Furious 9.5*," and attributes the film's success to Johnson and Reynolds' real-life bromance. "They have incredible chemistry together both on set and off," says Thurber. "When the cameras aren't rolling, they're yukking it up just as much as they are when we put them in front of the camera." Happy to sacrifice plot in favor of over-the-top action, *Red Notice*'s playful nature is enough to justify its two upcoming sequels, with all its stars and the director set to return. —*T.T.*

Édgar Ramírez plays René González, a pilot who defects from Cuba without telling his family and establishes himself in Miami with a group of anti-Castro exiles who perpetrate terrorist attacks on Cuba. After his wife, Olga (Penélope Cruz), looks for answers, she discovers that René actually infiltrated the group on behalf of Cuban intelligence.

The intricate story is based on true events, with handsome visuals and a standout cast surrounding Ramírez and Cruz, including Gael García Bernal, Ana de Armas, and Wagner Moura. The film was directed by Olivier Assayas, who previously worked with Ramírez on the miniseries *Carlos*. —*K.J.*

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard were taken aback by their daughters' reaction to the film they made while falling in love.

"Our kids rarely show interest in us as — anyone with kids knows — but they did want to see this movie we made, because we're very much in love," Shepard shared on a recent joint appearance alongside Bell on *Jimmy Kimmel Live*. "I mean, we're childless, and we had nothing to do but love each other."

Bell explained that she and Shepard, who would marry the year after the release of 2012's *Hit & Run*, "spent all this time making this independent film, and daddy wrote it and directed it, and they were like, 'We want to see it." And we hadn't watched it in forever. We were like, 'Okay, let's watch it with you.'"

What happened next surprised them both.**

"They loved it," Shepard reported. While acknowledging that the action comedy about a professor and former getaway driver who hit the road is "so inappropriate," Shepard shared that his daughters with Bell, 10-year-old Delta and 12-year-old Lincoln, "have a good sense of humor" and "like seeing us in love and kind of young."

What they did not like, however, was seeing their parents break up on screen.

"They were very upset, and what made me so happy is they were mad at mom, not me," Shepard joked. "They thought mom was a bitch, and they thought daddy was a good boy with a bad past."

A mom's two daughters are going viral for being nearly the same size, despite having an almost 4-year age difference

Alyssa Crawford, a 29-year-old Canada-based mom of two, recently shared a few pictures of her two daughters, Sommer, 12 months, and Violet, 4, in a now-viral TikTok, where she poked fun at how tiny her older daughter is

Reflecting on the reach of her TikTok, Alyssa tells PEOPLE that she was "surprised" to see how many people viewed her post, noting been "interesting" to see their reactions

A mom's two daughters are going viral for being nearly the same size, despite having an almost 4-year age difference.

Alyssa Crawford, a 29-year-old Canada-based mom of two, recently shared a few pictures of her daughters, Sommer, 12 months, and Violet, 4, in a now-viral TikTok, where she poked fun at how tiny her older daughter is with her own take on the "Holy Airball" trend.

The post, which has over 2.2 million views, starts with the doting mom recounting a hypothetical conversation with another person, where she's telling them her daughter is "really tiny" for her age. In the scenario, the other person agrees that their children are "small" too before Alyssa proves to them exactly what she means. The last slide is a picture of Violet and Sommer sitting side-by-side, showing just how tiny the 4-year-old is.

Alyssa, who welcomed her daughters with husband Mike Crawford, 32, tells PEOPLE that her daughter Violet, who's currently 36 inches tall, was born at an average size, but had slow growth from there.

"She was born at an average size, but slow to grow from there, and was always tiny. Doctors were never worried since she was always meeting milestones, usually early," she says, noting that her 12-month-old is 26 inches tall. "They only decided to look into it further at her 4-year check-up because she was off the charts."

Reflecting on the reach of her TikTok, Alyssa tells PEOPLE that she was "surprised" to see how many people viewed her post. She says it's been "interesting" to see people's reactions to her daughter's size.

"I was surprised the TikTok blew up the way it did. It was interesting to see how people reacted, most thinking they knew exactly the reason she was short," she says. "Many [tried] to 'diagnose' her based on three pictures and a tiny bit of information."

The proud mom says she's lucky to have "amazing doctors" who have been with her daughter since she was younger.

Despite being tiny, Alyssa says her daughter has a big personality. In the caption of her TikTok, the proud mom shared that her personality is big enough to make up for her height.

"She might be tiny, but her personality makes up for it 🤣," she wrote in the caption for the post. "We're in the negative percentiles now but she's as healthy as can be🤷🏻‍♀️."

Alyssa adds that her daughter is "full of personality," telling PEOPLE she "loves to sing and dance to Taylor Swift" and "has lots of friends at school and tons of attitude."

Even after five years and an Oscar win, Da'Vine Joy Randolph isn't ready to say goodbye to *High Fidelity*.

The Academy Award-winner, who is currently making the rounds for her role in the sci-fi rom-com *Eternity*, recently addressed the possibility of reviving the sitcom during an interview with *Rolling Stone*. Asked if she'd be open to returning to the show after all these years, Randolph didn't hesitate.

"Absolutely," she replied. "We all feel the same way. Zoë [Kravitz] and I talk about it all the time, like, 'How can we figure this out? Give it back to the people,' but really give it back to us, because we just really love it."

The 2020 series, which offered a modernized, gender-swapped take on the John Cusack romantic comedy classic, lasted only a single season on Hulu before its abrupt cancellation. At the time, Randolph's career was just beginning to pop on the heels of *Dolemite Is My Name* and *The United States vs. Billie Holiday*. Within three years, she would snag an Academy Award for *The Holdovers*.

Though she already has her next few projects lined up, Randolph is open to the idea of once again playing snarky music seller Cherise. But that doesn't mean she has no reservations at all.

"I's a really tricky one, because you're trying to recapture lightning in a bottle," Randolph said of a potential second season. "Sometimes you have to just let things be what it is organically and trust in the process to find the next thing."

*High Fidelity*, based on the 2000 film and Nick Hornby's 1995 novel, centers on Robyn "Rob" Brooks (Kravitz), a young music-obsessed record store owner in Brooklyn, as she reflects on the ups and downs of her previous failed relationships. Fans and critics alike praised the dramedy upon its debut, and since Hulu does not release traditional viewership figures, its cancellation came as a shock. It certainly didn't help that the finale ended on a cliffhanger, with Rob making a major love-life decision.

In the five years since, Kravitz has often discussed her disappointment over the abrupt cancellation and said several times that she would love the opportunity to keep the series going.

"That's where I really learned about producing and editing and writing, and man, I'm sad," Kravitz told *Elle* earlier this year. "I keep on going back to Hulu and trying to get them to re-up it, but they won't. They're not interested."

Elsewhere in her conversation with *Rolling Stone*, Randolph recalled feeling the pressure of portraying a character previously embodied by Jack Black.

"I chose not to watch the movie because I am such an avid fan of Jack Black, and I did not want in any way for my performance to be tainted," she shared. "I wanted it to authentically be me. But I definitely felt the pressure of, 'Oh gosh, people are going to expect this thing because we're doing a remake.'"

She added, "[The TV show] being so different, I think, helped *High Fidelity* be successful. But that's rare. I often see [sequels] or remakes that happen 20 years later and think, 'Do we need it?'"**

Paul Walker's daughter is paying tribute to her beloved dad.

On Sunday, 12 years to the day after the car accident that claimed the *Fast & Furious *franchise star's life, the model and philanthropist shared a series of images accompanied by a touching caption on her Instagram to commemorate his life.

"12 years without you… I love you forever," Meadow wrote, over a series of three pictures depicting Paul kneeling before a toddler-aged Meadow, who sits on a counter looking at her dad with a smile. In the pictures, Paul holds a plate with up to his daughter containing a dessert festooned with candles, which she considers before giving her dad a peck on the lips.**

Walker's sudden and tragic passing rocked Hollywood in 2013.

The actor was riding in the passenger seat of a vehicle when the driver, racing pro Roger Rodas, lost control of Walker's Porsche Carrera GT and struck a concrete lamp post in Santa Clarita, Calif. The car caught fire upon impact, and both men were pronounced dead when authorities arrived on the scene.

Paul had Meadow Rain Walker 15 years before with childhood sweetheart Rebecca Soteros. Though Walker and Soteros never married, the pair co-parented Meadow until the actor's untimely death.

"Every day I pick her up from school, and we go out on a longboard," Walker told PEOPLE in 2006. "She's the best partner I've ever had."

Meadow has paid tribute to her late father on the anniversary of his death in the past, taking the occasion in 2021 to fundraise for various charities that held a special place in Paul's heart during his lifetime, including Toys for Tots.

"To honor my dad's legacy, we hope you'll join us to Do Good," she wrote on Instagram at the time. "From building schools, to advocating for ocean conservancy, to our annual scholarship, affecting positive change is at the heart of everything we do. We love and appreciate you."

Meadow's call to give back was not a one-off, either. Through the Paul Walker Foundation that Meadow established 2015, she has helped keep his giving spirit alive by supporting initiatives benefitting wildlife conservation and ocean protection, and awarding an annual scholarship benefitting a student aspiring to dedicate their lives to such disciplines.
