Netflix hits back at claims that Diddy documentary footage was stolen

Netflix is hitting back against claims from Sean "Diddy" Combs that footage in a new docuseries was obtained illegally.

The streaming giant, which released the Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson-produced "Sean Combs: The Reckoning" on Tuesday, said they have the "necessary rights" to all footage used in the project – and that they had offered an interview to the music mogul, which he declined.

"The Reckoning," a four-part docuseries that dives into Combs' come-up in the music business (and later his downfall), employs a mix of interviews and some never-before-seen footage from the days before his arrest of federal sex-trafficking charges. Combs' team has since argued that the "biased Netflix production" used "stolen footage that was never authorized for release."

50 Cent's Diddy doc features never-seen footage days before arrest

The filmmakers are vigorously denying such a claim.

"It came to us, we obtained the footage legally and have the necessary rights. We moved heaven and earth to keep the filmmaker's identity confidential," director Alexandria Stapleton told Tudum, Netflix's internal publication. "One thing about Sean Combs is that he's always filming himself, and it's been an obsession throughout the decades. We also reached out to Sean Combs' legal team for an interview and comment multiple times, but did not hear back."

In a separate statement from a Netflix spokesperson, shared with USA TODAY Dec. 2, the streamer doubled down on that sentiment.

"The claims being made about 'Sean Combs: The Reckoning' are false. The project has no ties to any past conversations between Sean Combs and Netflix," the company said. "The footage of Combs leading up to his indictment and arrest were legally obtained. This is not a hit piece or an act of retribution. Curtis Jackson is an executive producer but does not have creative control. No one was paid to participate."

Diddy documentary concludes with Aubrey O'Day's heartbreaking reveal

Netflix's statement responds to claims from the Combs camp that 50 Cent's involvement with the project undermines its legitimacy, given the rapper's alleged personal grievances against the Bad Boy Records founder.

In a statement provided to USA TODAY, a spokesperson for Combs described "Sean Combs: The Reckoning" as a "shameful hit piece." Combs spokesperson Juda Engelmayer also told USA TODAY that his legal team would not be commenting "on individual claims being repeated in the documentary."

"Many of the people featured have longstanding personal grievances, financial motives, or credibility issues that have been documented for years," Engelmayer said. "Several of these stories have already been addressed in court filings, and others were never raised in any legal forum because they're simply not true. The project was built around a one-sided narrative led by a publicly admitted adversary, and it repeats allegations without context, evidence, or verification."

Sean "Diddy" Combs' family has shown their support for the embattled music mogul through his avalanche of civil lawsuits and his 2025 criminal trial, which resulted in his acquittal on top charges. He was ultimately found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He has a sprawling family including seven children. Combs, who's never been married, shares four of these adult children — Quincy Brown, whom he adopted, Christian "King" Combs, and twins D'Lila and Jessie Combs — with the late model Kimberly Porter. Combs is currently serving out a federal prison sentence in New Jersey, and separately facing an avalanche of civil suits accusing him of a long history of abusive behavior. He has maintained his innocence.

In July, Combs was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in a federal criminal trial, largely considered a relatively favorable outcome as he was acquitted on more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. He was sentenced to just over four years in prison.

Jimmy Kimmel thinks it may be time for President Donald Trump to take a screen break.

The late-night host on his Tuesday, Dec. 2, episode mocked Trump for having an unusually active evening on Truth Social, during which he fired off more than 150 posts in a single night. According to Axios, on Dec. 1, the president posted exactly 158 times between 9 p.m. and 12 a.m.

"I know I've said this before, but for real, this time he went completely off the rails last night," Kimmel said, addressing on the "onslaught" of posts from the "man who's allegedly running the country."

To provide a visual of Trump's "avalanche of angry posts," Kimmel put Trump's many, many Truth Social messages up on screen behind him.

"Do you know how long you have to be on the toilet to post that much?" he joked, going on to ask, "What was Melania doing during this five-hour, manic Monday marathon? Hiding under the Christmas tree?"

Trump's Truth Social posting spree included everything from attacks on his political opponents to a clip of his cameo in the 1992 film "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York," which Kimmel said he believes was the "last time Donald Trump was happy."

Jimmy Fallon also addressed Trump's posting spree at the top of "The Tonight Show," quipping, "Well, I think we know where Venezuela's cocaine has been going."

Jimmy Kimmel tells Stephen Colbert he thought show was 'over' after suspension

"It's like someone said to Trump, 'Tell us the results of your MRI without telling us the results of your MRI,'" he continued. "160 posts in one night. This morning, Trump's thumbs were as swollen as his ankles."

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel's late-night talk show, "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", will resume production after it was pulled off the air Sept. 17, following comments he made in the wake of Charlie Kirk's killing. Kimmel, a frequent critic of Donald Trump, often earned the ire of the president. After the announcement, Trump urged other networks to do the same. Scroll to see the other late-night talk show hosts that have feuded with the president over the years.

The various late-night hosts also had a field day with Trump's latest Cabinet meeting on Dec. 2. Kimmel characterized it as simply an excuse for Trump to be "showered with praise," and he played a montage of clips where the president's eyes appeared to be closed during the meeting.

"Tell us again how Sleepy Joe is, will you?" Kimmel joked. "Of course he's tired: He was up all night posting!"

Meanwhile, Stephen Colbert also alleged on "The Late Show" that Trump was "dozing off" during the Cabinet meeting while Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke.

"Let's be fair," Colbert joked. "Maybe he's so old that he fell asleep in an afternoon meeting, or maybe he just closed his eyes to better concentrate on filling his adult diaper. Then, he fell asleep."

Gilmore Girls fans are about to be reading again … how novel.

On Wednesday, Dec. 3, it was exclusively announced on the Today show that the show's star Lauren Graham and creator Amy Sherman-Palladino will be co-writing a Gilmore Girls book.

"We can exclusively announce an untitled book is in the works, taking the readers behind the scenes of the beloved series," Carson Daly shared during his PopStart segment.

And while of course the book will be coming out in the fall (when else?), it's not scheduled for release until fall 2027.

According to a press release obtained by PEOPLE, the book will be published with Celadon Books and will take "readers behind the curtain of Gilmore Girls, revealing how a small-town dramedy with mile-a-minute dialogue became a cultural touchstone."

"Through a blend of sharp wit, personal reflection and never-before-shared stories, Lauren Graham and Amy Sherman-Palladino offer an intimate, behind-the-scenes portrait of their creative partnership and the spark that defined Lorelai Gilmore and the world of Stars Hollow," the release continues. "Along the way, they revisit unforgettable moments from the set — capturing the humor, heart and alchemy that has made the series an enduring classic."

"I'm thrilled to collaborate with Amy to bring readers all our stories of the special years we spent filming Gilmore Girls, the first and second time!" Graham said in a statement.

Sherman-Palladino agreed, adding, "I will jump at any chance to collaborate with Lauren Graham. On anything. Be it a boozy broads' lunch at Joe Allen's, or writing an actual book, the answer will always be 'yes'. I find myself wanting to be permanently linked to her side forever. Not sure it's healthy, for either of us, but it's just the reality of the situation."

This isn't the first time Graham has taken fans behind-the-scenes of the hit series. In her 2016 memoir, Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls, Graham took fans along during the process of filming the show's Netflix revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Graham, 58, has also published several other books, including 2018's In Conclusion, Don't Worry About It and 2022's Have I Told You This Already? Stories I Don't Want to Forget to Remember. She's also the author of the 2013 novel, Someday, Someday, Maybe.

Gilmore Girls' Emily Gilmore, actress Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore), released her own memoir, The Third Gilmore Girl, in 2024.

The TV series followed mother-daughter duo Lorelai and Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) as they navigated life in the small fictional Connecticut town of Stars Hollow. It ran for seven seasons from 2000 to 2007, though Sherman-Palladino exited the show after season 6.

Sherman-Palladino returned to lead the gang for 2016's Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, which featured four film-style episodes.

Back in October, several Gilmore Girls stars reunited at the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony for Graham, including Sherman-Palladino, Bishop, Scott Patterson, Matt Czuchry, Yanic Truesdale and more.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia's transport ministry said Wednesday that a private firm will resume a deep-sea hunt for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 later this month, more than a decade after the jet vanished without a trace.

The search will be carried out by Texas-based marine robotics firm Ocean Infinity, which signed a new "no-find, no-fee" contract with Malaysia's government in March.

It is unclear if the company has new evidence of the plane's location. Ocean Infinity CEO Oliver Punkett reportedly said last year that the company had improved its technology since 2018, when the firm made its first seabed search operation under a similar deal and found nothing. Punkett has said the firm is working with many experts to analyze data and had narrowed the search area to the most likely site.

Earlier this year the firm restarted the seabed search operation at a new 15,000-square-kilometer (5,800-square-mile) site in the Indian Ocean after Malaysia's government gave it the greenlight, but the search was halted in April due to bad weather.

Ocean Infinity will be paid $70 million only if wreckage is discovered.

The Boeing 777 plane disappeared from radar shortly after taking off on March 8, 2014, carrying 239 people, mostly Chinese nationals, on a flight from Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur, to Beijing. Satellite data showed the plane turned from its flight path and headed south to the far-southern Indian Ocean, where it is believed to have crashed.

An expensive multinational search failed to turn up any clues to its location, although debris washed ashore on the east African coast and Indian Ocean islands. Apart from those small fragments, no bodies or wreckage have ever been found.

Malaysia's transport ministry said in a brief statement Wednesday that Ocean Infinity will search intermittently from Dec. 30 for a total of 55 days, in targeted areas believed to have the highest likelihood of finding the missing aircraft.

"The latest development underscores the government of Malaysia's commitment in providing closure to the families affected by this tragedy," it said.

In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said, "We ... appreciate the efforts made by the Malaysian side."

Tom Brady recently made headlines when it was revealed that his dog Junie is a clone of the retired quarterback's late pup, Lua — and many know Barbra Streisand cloned her beloved canine, Samantha. But Kelly Anderson wants animal lovers to know pet cloning isn't just for the rich and famous.

The Austin-based social media manager, 36, cloned her cat Chai in 2017 to make her current kitty, Belle. Anderson is open about her experience and what it's like to live with a cloned cat on her Clone Kitty website and social media accounts.

"I think people see stuff in the news about Tom Brady or Paris Hilton cloning their pets and don't realize that the average person is also out there doing this. I'm not wealthy," Anderson tells PEOPLE, adding that she took out a loan to cover the $25,000 cost of cloning Chai.

The expense was worth it to Anderson, who still calls cloning her late pet "one of the best decisions I've ever made."

The pet owner says she knew from the start that Chai's clone would be more like an identical twin than an exact copy. She wasn't expecting Belle to have the same personality as her predecessor. For Anderson, the cloning process was about carrying on Chai's legacy, because the feline had a profound impact on her.

"Chai came into my life when I was in my later years in college. And it was a time in my life where I was struggling with mental health issues and depression," Anderson shares. "She just immediately synced up with me and understood my emotions in ways that no other animal really ever had. And I've had animals my entire life."

She adds that Chai, a ragdoll cat, wasn't overly cuddly, but could intuit when Anderson needed affection and comfort. The pair bonded deeply early when Chai got sick as a kitten and required five months of treatment before she was healthy again.

Unfortunately, Chai's life was cut short after she ingested a piece of plastic from a food wrapper while under a pet sitter's care. Vets discovered the obstruction a week after Chai ingested the plastic. And while the cat survived the operation to remove the plastic wrapper, she had an adverse reaction to the anesthesia and died after the surgery.

"I went to the vet, had my carrier, was in the private vet room thinking I was picking her up, and the vet walked in about 10 minutes later and told me that when I had walked in, they had gone to get her out of her carrier and found her unresponsive. She basically had a bad reaction to anesthesia," Anderson says of the heartbreaking circumstances of Chai's death.

By chance, Anderson had been talking about pet cloning with her roommate after they had learned that Viagen, a pet cloning company, was located nearby.

Chai the cat

"It was fresh on my mind the night after Chai passed, and I couldn't sleep and stayed up all night researching cloning and ultimately decided that that was what I wanted to do with Chai's legacy," Anderson recalls. "As soon as I made up my mind about it, I knew that that's what I wanted to do."

Anderson contacted Viagen shortly after Chai's death in October 2017 and began the cloning process. The company warned the pet owner she would not be getting an "exact copy of the pet back."

That was no problem for Anderson. "For me, this was never about bringing my cat back from the grave. It was just about carrying on a piece of her," she says.

Anderson thought the cloning process would take several months, but because of several factors, including a degraded tissue sample, it took four years. In Oct. 2021, Anderson finally met Chai's clone, Belle.

"It was so surreal. I wasn't sitting there thinking about Chai in that moment. I was thinking about this small, tiny, baby kitten that I'd been waiting so long to meet, and it's finally here," Anderson says of the day she met Belle.

"I think I really got to enjoy that moment of receiving Belle and getting to meet Belle," she adds, noting that Belle "fell asleep on my lap instantly."

The novelty of having a cloned cat has yet to wear off for Anderson.

"I think it's so wild and amazing that we can do this. It's been really fascinating watching Belle grow up and seeing the similarities and the differences," she says.

Speaking of similarities, Belle and Chai certainly look a lot alike, and, according to Anderson, there are ways they act alike, too.

Like Chai, Belle senses some of Anderson's emotions, especially anxiety, and often cuddles with Anderson when the cat owner feels stressed.

Belle is experiencing a different life from Chai. Chai's illness in kittenhood kept Anderson from pursuing her adventure cat dreams with the pet. Anderson started bringing Belle to parks, stores, and breweries as a kitten, so the feline grew up comfortable in public spaces.

Today, Belle often accompanies Anderson on excursions, which they document on social media. Belle has over 88,000 followers on Instagram, many of whom started following the account when Chai was alive.

"They were there for the entire journey of Chai's passing, and everyone was there for my decision to start cloning," Anderson says of the @CloneKitty social media following. "So I felt like I needed to keep everyone up to date on what was going on."

After she started sharing more details online about Belle and how the cat came to be, Anderson "realized that I had an opportunity to have a platform no one was really talking about online because it's a controversial topic."

"I think the most common question I get is, 'Do they have the same personality or not?' Everyone wants to know that first off the bat," Anderson says of the conversations she has about cloning online. "And then on the more hostile side, people want to know why I didn't adopt, why I didn't donate $25,000 to charity instead."

"A lot of people have questions about the ethics of it as well, which I think is completely fair. But I do have complete faith in ViaGen Pets and their process."

Anderson says she doesn't plan to clone another pet anytime soon — she has two other cats and two dogs, including a retired service dog named Ghost.

Ghost came into Anderson's life while Chai was still alive. And the dog's owner says that, among the current cats, Ghost seems to have the closest bond with Chai's clone, Belle.

"I often see them sleeping next to each other and Ghost engaging with Belle more than the other cats. And I don't know if it's just because her personality is more bold and outgoing than my other cats, or if he just knows," Anderson says.

— sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. For those curious about pet cloning, Anderson has two pieces of advice. First, don't pursue the costly process if you "think you're going to get your pet back."

"This is not resurrection, this is not reincarnation. You're not going to get your cat or your dog back from the dead. If you're doing this because you miss your pet, then think about the intent and the reason behind that before you decide to clone, because it's going to end up in disappointment for you," she explains. "It's not fair to the animal if you're cloning this pet with the idea of casting this wide shadow over them of the original."

Fetching Fido Fotography - Jane Fidanza

Belle the cat

Anderson's second suggestion is that cloning-curious pet owners should get a tissue sample from their living pet — a procedure that can be done during a dental cleaning — and have it preserved so it's ready for cloning."I think it's really important to know that you can collect tissue samples before your pet passes. And that's actually the recommended process for genetic preservation. I think part of the reason it took four years for me was that they had frozen Chai's remains overnight, and that started to damage her cell quality," she says.

Anderson admits she has Ghost's tissue preserved with Viagen, "just in case I ever win the lottery. I definitely don't have the money to clone again offhand."

"At the end of the day, we all love our pets, and we have a really strong connection with special animals in our lives. I think that it's really cool that science is allowing us to clone pets. And for some people, it's the right direction and can really be life-changing."

The Awardist tout with Jesse Plemons and Yorgos Lanthimos for Bugonia

Jesse Plemons and Yorgos Lanthimos know people have lots to say and think about their new movie *Bugonia*. That's the point.

That's the fun part. You hope people are affected differently by a film," Plemons says on the latest episode of **'s *The Awardist* podcast. "I think those are always the types of movies that I enjoy most, the ones that stay with you that you wake up thinking about, and then when you revisit them, you might have a completely different take on it."

The conversation around the movie started with the first trailer, when audiences learned the plot: two cousins (played by Plemons and Aidan Delbis) kidnap Michelle Fuller (Emma Stone), the CEO of a pharmaceutical company, who they believe to be an alien sent to destroy Earth. Debates over whether she might be are fun social media fodder, but Lanthimos was most interested in everything else there was to "discover and debate with yourself and others," he says — which is part of what got his attention in writer Will Tracy's script.**

"I found it very funny. It got me excited to share it with someone, which was immediately Emma Stone, like, the same night," Lanthimos recalls. "Just managing to combine the fact that it's entertaining and funny, but with really profound questions and themes, interesting characters. This particular one was also felt different to me than what I've done before because it was so contained and so concentrated on these three characters. *The Favourite* was kind of the same way, too, but very different. So there's all these elements that got me excited, and it rarely happens, to be honest."**

Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons break down that 'really disgusting' scene at the end of 'Bugonia'

Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons in Bugonia

Plemons, who previously worked with Lanthimos on last year's *Kinds of Kindness* — a three-part anthology where the cast played different characters — says he "immediately had a real love" for his *Bugonia* character, Teddy, a conspiracy theorist who also happens to be a beekeeper, worried that Michelle's alien species, Andromedans, will kill off honeybees too.**

"Because the script was so well written, and there are some very dark elements and aspects to Teddy, but because of the way Will wrote him, I felt it was very clear to me that Teddy had this story that he was telling himself and he told himself what role he was in this story and in his mind the fate of humanity is solely on his shoulders," Plemons says of the character, who thinks he's going to be the hero of this story. But, Plemons notes, "It's tricky territory because there's some dark scenes, but almost in the way that like a child wants to be a superhero was kind of something that I thought about."

Plemons, a supporting actor Oscar nominee for 2021's *The Power of the Dog*, is getting some of the best reviews of his 25-year career, some saying he's at the top of his game. But did he feel like the performance was that good when it was happening?

Jesse Plemons stars as Teddy Gatz in director Yorgos Lanthimos' BUGONIA

Jesse Plemons in 'Bugonia'.

Atsushi Nishijima/Focus Features

"In my experience, if you get that feeling, you should be concerned because you're probably wrong," he quips." No is the easy [answer] — like, rarely. I will say, the only days where I really feel like I can sleep easy are the ones where we've shot a scene so many ways [and] at the end of the day, if I'm replaying something, I think I don't know what else I could have tried, then I find some level of peace. But that's kind of the extent of it, because there's no worse feeling than the drive home or eating dinner and just like, *why didn't I think of that*?"
