"Paul, I bloody love you, man. And I know loads of other women do in this room too, but tough s---," she said

The actresses nominated at this year's ceremony included Rose Byrne, Chase Infiniti, Renate Reinsve, Amanda Seyfried and Emma Stone

Jessie Buckley shared some overt praise for her Hamnet costar Paul Mescal after she won Best Actress at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards.

Buckley, 36, poked fun at Mescal's internet boyfriend status as she accepted the award from Jeff Goldblum during the Sunday, Jan. 4, awards show at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.

"Chloé Zhao, you have reminded me of the power of telling a story and the journey that you can go on to touch the deepest parts of what it is to be alive," she said, shouting out Hamnet's writer-director Zhao, 43.

"Paul, I bloody love you, man. And I know loads of other women do in this room too, but tough s---," she added, with a laugh. "I could drink you like water working with you every single day. You're a giant of the heart and thank you so much for making me a little more human."

Mescal and Buckley costarred as William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes in Hamnet, a fictional tale of the family's domestic lives and the writing of Shakespeare's play Hamlet. Buckley also shouted out costar Emily Watson, whom she called "my north star from the beginning," as well as child actors Jacobi Jupe, Olivia Lynes and Bodhi Rae Breathnach, who play her and Mescal's onscreen children in the movie. "To my kiddywinks- Jacobi, Olivia, Bodhi — thank you for reminding me what it is to have a ball again," she added.

Buckley's fellow nominees at this year's Critics Choice Awards also included Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I'd Kick You), Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), Amanda Seyfried (The Testament of Ann Lee) and Emma Stone (Bugonia).

Buckley's gut-wrenching performance as Agnes, the wife of Paul Mescal's William Shakespeare, in Chloé Zhao's Hamnet received critical acclaim.

In Zhao's adaptation of author Maggie O'Farrell's 2020 novel of the same name (a fictional story about the life of the Shakespeare family), audiences see the unraveling of Agnes following the death of her son Hamnet, played by Jacobi Jupe. Their son's death leads Shakespeare to write the world-renowned play Hamlet.

Buckley's consideration for Best Actress at this year's Critics Choice Awards marked her second nomination for the award show, following her 2023 nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the drama Women Talking.

"I'm really proud to be putting this film out in the world, and I'm so happy that it's been responded to in the way it has," Buckley told PEOPLE at the New York premiere of the film. "I mean, to make anything at all is a triumph. The other stuff is extra."

Rose Byrne in 'If I Had Legs I'd Kick You'

Byrne plays Linda, a therapist who struggles with her own mental health, in Mary Bronstein's psychological thriller, If I Had Legs I'd Kick You.

The film depicts Linda's life as she navigates her daughter's illness, an absent husband and her hostile relationship with her therapist, played by Conan O'Brien. If I Had Legs I'd Kick You costars Danielle MacDonald, Ivy Wolk, A$AP Rocky, Christian Slater and Delaney Quinn.

The actress' lead performance earned her the Silver Berlin Bear award at this year's Berlin International Film Festival in February. Her nomination for the 2026 Critics Choice Awards is her second for the award show, which came over a decade after her first nomination in 2015 for Best Actress in a Comedy for her role as Kelly Radner in Neighbors.

"It's so flattering," Byrne told USA Today of the praise she's received for her role in the film. "I feel very emotional about it. I've been doing this a long time, so I feel grateful to have had such an incredible opportunity with this character."

Chase Infiniti in 'One Battle After Another'

One Battle After Another is taking the lead this awards season, so it's no wonder that its breakthrough actress earned her first-ever nomination for a Critics Choice award in the category of Best Actress.

Infiniti plays the role of Willa, the beloved teenage daughter of Leonardo DiCaprio's Bob Ferguson — former revolutionary who is on the run, and Teyana Taylor's Perfidia Beverly Hills.

"My whole life has literally changed in the last six months," Infiniti told the Guardian when speaking about the film's success.

Renate Reinsve in 'Sentimental Value'

In Sentimental Value, Reinsve plays Nora, an actress and estranged daughter to an aging film director played by Stellan Skarsgård.

The Norwegian drama follows a dysfunctional family as Nora and her sister Agnes (played by Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas) reunite with their father Gustav, who hopes Nora will star in the comeback film he wrote for her. As Gustav aims to work his way back into their lives, Nora retreats into isolation as her mental health increasingly declines.

This year marks Reinsve's first nomination for a Critics Choice award, while Sentimental Value has earned seven nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor for Skarsgård.

"I was very connected to the role," Reinsve told Variety of her role. "It's not like specifically the story, or like detailed – it's not my story, but it is kind of. We share that perspective of how complex things are, and how subtle you can say something very dramatic about everyday life and what small moments contain of drama."

Searchlight Pictures

Amanda Seyfried in 'The Testament of Ann Lee'

The Testament of Ann Lee star received a 15-minute standing ovation at the Venice International Film Festival for her performance as the founder and leader of the Shakers, Ann Lee.

In the epic fable, directed by Mona Fastvold, Seyfried captures the essence of one of the few female religious leaders of the 18th century through song and movement. Speaking at the Venice press conference, Fastvold opened up about why she chose Seyfried as the lead.

"Amanda has a lot of power," Fastvold said. "She's really strong. She is a wonderful mother. She is a little mad. And so I knew that she could access those things — she could access the kindness, the gentleness, the tenderness. And she could also access this power and this madness."

At the same conference, Seyfried said, "This did feel like an opportunity where there were just no tethers to anything… I've never been let loose in this way."

Her Best Actress nomination at this year's Critics Choice follows her two prior nominations: Best Actress in a Limited Series for her role in The Dropout in 2023 and Best Supporting Actress for her role in Mank in 2021.

Focus Features

Emma Stone in 'Bugonia'

Stone was out of this world (literally) in her fourth film with director Yorgos Lanthimos, Bugonia.

The actress plays Michelle, a pharmaceutical company CEO who is kidnapped by two conspiracy theorists who believe she is an alien plotting to take over life on Earth. In this comedic sci-fi film, Stone earnestly tries to convince these men, played by Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis, that she is human.

Stone's nomination marks her sixth overall for the Critics Choice Awards, following her 2024 Best Actress win for her role in Lanthimos' Poor Things.

Jimmy Kimmel's foot remains squarely planted on Donald Trump's neck.

The longtime host of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which ABC temporarily pulled from air in September after months of threats and insinuations by the president, addressed Trump directly from the stage of the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, after winning for Best Talk Show.

"A FIFA Peace Prize would have been better, but this is nice, too," Kimmel snarked, referring to the international soccer association's president and a self-professed friend of Trump's, Gianni Infantino, inventing an award to give him at a ceremony last month.

Kimmel proceeded to thank his wife, Molly McNearney, Kimmel Live's producers, and the annual ceremony's voting body, before turning his attention to the most special recipient of his gratitude.

"Most of all, I want to thank our President, Donald Jennifer Trump, without whom we would be going home empty-handed tonight," Kimmel said.

Jimmy Kimmel and Donald Trump

"Thank you, Mr. President, for all the many ridiculous things you do each and every day," Kimmel continued, riding a wave of raucous applause. "It's been a banner couple of weeks, and we can't wait to get back on the air tomorrow night to talk about them. Thank you, everyone."

Kimmel also took time to shout out his colleagues in late-night, all of whom have had their own dust-ups with the famously antagonistic commander-in-chief, himself a former TV host.

"We share this award with our colleagues in late night, our fellow nominees who did not care enough to be here with you tonight," Kimmel joked. "Thanks to all the writers and actors and producers and union members, many of you who are in this room, who supported us, who really stepped forward and reminded us that we do not take free speech for granted in this city or in this country. Your actions were important. We appreciate that."

Jimmy Kimmel Live was first pulled from air on Sept. 17 over a set of controversial comments Kimmel made regarding the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk days earlier. The program was reinstated nearly a week later, though two broadcast groups (Nexstar and Sinclair) decided to maintain their preemption in several territories.

Kimmel and Trump have long shared an adversarial relationship, extending back to the very beginning of his first term in office in 2016. The suspension also came on the heels of CBS canceling The Late Show in July after 33 years on the air. While the network explained away the decision as purely financial, critics, including Colbert himself, insinuated the decision was motivated by CBS parent company Paramount's planned merger with Skydance Media, which would need Trump's FTC approval.

Get your daily dose of entertainment news, celebrity updates, and what to watch with our EW Dispatch newsletter.

Trump himself celebrated the decision at the time, writing on Truth Social, "I absolutely love that Colbert got fired."

The president also signaled in the same post, "I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next."

Chelsea Handler is paying tribute to a Hollywood legend.

The comedian, 50, returned to the Critics Choice Awards as host on Jan. 4 and kicked off awards season with a bang. For her fourth consecutive year helming the star-studded ceremony, Handler made multiple outfit changes, as one does when they're the face of a night like this.

For her third look of the night, however, Handler chose a specific look to honor Diane Keaton, who died in October at age 79. Keaton was known for wearing tailored suit looks for events — and Handler wore exactly that to take the stage, telling the audience that it was a nod to Keaton.

Prior to the suit, Handler also wore a strapless champagne-colored gown with a draped bodice, and for her red carpet appearance, she wore a forest green off-the-shoulder gown with a column skirt.

Handler hosted her first Critics Choice in 2023. Each and every year since, she's become a master at the Hollywood quick-change, reporting for duty in a trio of looks. Last year, she wore a colorful array of slim-fitting dresses, despite having suffered from an ailment that forced her to wear an arm bandage on stage.

Surprising? No, since the actress is always up for a bit of a challenge, even when that comes to fashion. One of her boldest style traditions: hitting the slopes in her bikini every birthday. While appearing on The Jamie Kern Lima Show, she referred to the experience as "freeing," explaining that "[it's] the essence of who I am."

As much as she likes to play around with her style, Handler has told PEOPLE, "When I'm not on camera or getting my hair and makeup done, I am a minimalist."

"I don't like to put on a lot of makeup. I just want to look like I've been sleeping. That's my goal in life — to look well-rested," she admitted.

But all that comes with Hander's philosophy on aging, which has been about embracing who she is at her current stage of life.

"I'm not trying to look like I'm in my 20s when I'm 50, but I do want to look the best version of me," said Handler, who will turn 51 on February 25. "And I've come to terms with the idea that aging is not a bad thing, aging is a beautiful thing. It can be very sexy and it can be very vibrant as long as you're not fighting it and resisting it and holding onto youth very tightly. That's a losing game."

She continued, "It's much sexier to embody who you are and meet the moment of where you are. That's what I try to do."

Jeff Mauro and Tiffany Derry are hosting season 30, called Worst Cooks in America: Reality Check

The 30th season of Worst Cooks in America, and the first without Anne Burrell, aired this weekend.

Worst Cooks in America: Reality Check premiered on Sunday, Jan. 4, with celebrity chefs Jeff Mauro and Tiffany Derry at the helm of the series. This new season marks the first following the death of Burrell, the show's former longtime host, who died at the age of 55 in June.

Season 30's contestants come from far and wide, originating from reality TV, music, sports and pop culture. Competing this season are Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Lisa Barlow, TV personality Downtown Julie Brown, Dancing with the Stars pro Val Chmerkovskiy, Shahs of Sunset alum Reza Farahan, Love & Hip Hop: Miami standout Amara La Negra, Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte, RuPaul's Drag Race legend Manila Luzon, rapper and actor Romeo Miller, 7th Heaven's Beverley Mitchell and The Challenge powerhouse CT Tamburello.

Each reality star is assigned to one of the co-hosts, and they will each be eliminated until one contestant is crowned champion, earning $25,000 for the charity of their choice.

Burrell's last season hosting Worst Cooks in America aired on July 28 — six weeks after the chef died, and four days after her death was ruled a suicide. That season, called Worst Cooks in America: Talented and Terrible, starred Burrell and first-time co-host Gabe Bertaccini.

Worst Cooks paid tribute to Burrell during the show's season 29 premiere, with an ending card that read, "In Memoriam. Anne Burrell. 1969 – 2025."

Burrell died on the morning of June 17 at her home in Brooklyn, N.Y. Reps for the star announced her death in a release obtained by PEOPLE.

PEOPLE confirmed five weeks later that Burrell's cause of death was specified as an "acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine. It was determined by the New York City Medical Examiner's Office.

Diphenhydramine and cetirizine are antihistamines, while ethanol is a compound found in alcohol. Amphetamine is commonly used to treat ADHD.

Worst Cooks in America: Reality Check premiered at 8 p.m. EST / PST on Food Network on Jan. 4. It will stream the following day on HBO Max.

Spoiler alert! This story contains details about the final episode of "Stranger Things."

Do you believe?

The series finale of "Stranger Things" left Eleven's (Millie Bobby Brown) fate ambiguous, but the actress knows the definitive answer about what happened to her, the show's creators have revealed.

In a Jan. 4 spoiler interview on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, "Stranger Things" creators Matt and Ross Duffer confirmed they have decided what "the truth" is regarding whether Eleven lived or died, which they have shared with Brown.

But the Duffers have no plans to ever reveal this, nor does the actress.

Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven in "Stranger Things" Season 5.

"She's not going to tell you, either," Matt Duffer said on the podcast. "Don't waste your time."

He added, "Millie swore herself to secrecy."

Evidently, the rest of the "Stranger Things" cast isn't allowed to know the truth, either. During the podcast, Duffer texted Brown to remind her not to tell her costar Noah Schnapp what she knows about Eleven's fate, joking he can't be trusted with secrets. She texted back minutes later, "Of course not."

In the series finale of "Stranger Things," released on New Year's Eve, Eleven appears to sacrifice her life and allow herself to die as the Upside Down is destroyed in order to ensure her friends can be safe. But in the final scene, Mike (Finn Wolfhard) lays out a theory about how Eleven could have faked her death and may still be alive somewhere.

Stranger Things' series finale recap − This is really how it ends?

Mike and his friends decide to believe his theory that Eleven is alive, even though they'll never know for sure, but the show leaves it up to the viewer to decide whether they believe, too. While Eleven is shown arriving to a peaceful town, it's unclear whether this is real or simply a visualization of Mike's story.

Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler in "Stranger Things" Season 5.

On "Happy Sad Confused," Matt Duffer revealed the show's writers considered whether Eleven could have a "fully happy ending," where she's "married to Mike and they're living a perfectly happy life," but "we just couldn't figure out a way for that to work." He also argued it would take "away the power of the ending" to tell the audience their interpretation.

In other post-finale interviews, the Duffers noted they left Eleven's fate ambiguous so viewers would have to choose whether to believe Mike's story, just like the characters.

1 / 46'Stranger Things' cast then and now — See Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp grow up

Fast forward a decade later to Nov. 6, 2025, at the final red carpet premiere of "Stranger Things," as the cast prepares to say goodbye to the end of an area filled with Demogorgons, Mind Flayers, bicycle rides, Eggos, secret labs, first loves, heartbreaks and the biggest bad of them all: Vecna. From left: Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Caleb McLaughlin, Millie Bobby Brown and Gaten Matarazzo attend Netflix's "Stranger Things" Season 5 world premiere at TCL Chinese 6 Theatres on Nov. 6, 2025, in Hollywood, California.

"The characters can't know and the audience can't know because then it puts Eleven in danger and her sacrifice was for nothing," Matt Duffer told The Hollywood Reporter. "So there's a point in not knowing. The boys obviously choose to believe. I'm not sure what the majority of people are thinking, but dipping my toes a little bit into social media, it seems like people are choosing to believe and are going to Mike Wheeler route."

Who dies in the series finale of 'Stranger Things'?

Speaking to Netflix's Tudum, Ross Duffer also argued that Eleven disappearing at the end of the series was important on a thematic level.

"She represents magic in a lot of ways and the magic of childhood," he explained. "For our characters to move on and for the story of Hawkins and the Upside Down to come to a close, Eleven had to go away. We thought it would be beautiful if our characters continued to believe in that happier ending even if we didn't give them a clear answer to whether that's true or not."

Duffer added, "The fact that they're believing in it, we just thought it was such a better way to end the story and a better way to represent the closure of this journey and their journey from children to adults."

Brown's husband Jake Bongiovi appears to have decided on his interpretation of the ending. On Friday, he shared a photo on Instagram of Brown at a screening of the finale and wrote, "I believe!"

"Jen really valued their friendship in the beginning of the year," the insider said. "When it all took a turn to something more romantic, she was cautious at first. Now, she's excited that she just went for it."

The source also told PEOPLE that Aniston's relationship with Curtis "feels like kismet," and that she "truly loves" him.

"He's brought so many good things into her life," the insider explained of Curtis.

TV legend Henry Winkler may be 80, but he won't stop working anytime soon.

"People keep asking me, am I gonna retire or 'have you retired?'" the Happy Days alum said on a recent episode of the IMO podcast, hosted by former first lady Michelle Obama and her brother, Craig Robinson.

"And I think that is like the furthest thing from my imagination," Winkler said of stepping away from acting. "I will retire when I am not able to do [this] more."

He added of retirement, "I think that it is deadly."

"I work a lot," the octogenarian said of his current status. "I have several jobs."

His most recent gig is hosting the History Channel's Hazardous History, which was renewed for a second season that will expand to 30 hour-long episodes.

"When they presented it to me, I just loved the facts of it. I thought, 'This is outrageous,'" Winkler said of the documentary series, which delves into products and activities from America's past that now seem reckless.

Winkler's own past is far from that — aside from a certain shark jump. Over the past 50 years, he's portrayed numerous fan-favorite characters, beginning with one of his earliest roles as Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli on the sitcom Happy Days, which ran from 1974 until 1984. The part won the actor two Golden Globes, scored him three Emmy nominations, and earned him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1981.

He went on to delight comedy fans with numerous collaborations with Adam Sandler, including The Waterboy, Click, Little Nicky, You Don't Mess With the Zohan, and Sandy Wexler.

In his later years, he made memorable turns as Arrested Development's hilariously incompetent lawyer Barry Zuckerkorn, Parks and Recreation's resident obstetrician and investor (and father to the incorrigible Jean-Ralphio and Mona-Lisa) Dr. Lu Saperstein, and Barry's eccentric acting teacher Gene Cousineau.

It was the latter role opposite Bill Hader on the HBO series that brought Winkler perhaps the most acclaim of his career, when he was already well into his 70s. He snagged his first Primetime Emmy Award for season 1 and was nominated for all three of the seasons that followed.

Winkler also writes children's books with his writing partner, Lin Oliver, including the Here's Hank and Detective Duck series.

Next up, he can be seen starring alongside Bob Odenkirk and Lena Headey in the crime thriller Normal, heading to theaters in April.
