UConn, Michigan set for NCAA championship game rematch in first week of 2026-27 college-basketball season

The NCAA knows it had a good thing when Michigan and UConn squared off in the national championship game in April. While the game was, at times, not pretty, it was exciting, with Michigan pulling off a narrow 69-63 win to claim the national title.

If Dan Hurley and UConn are seeking revenge for that loss, they won’t have to wait long for that opportunity. Both teams will square off in a rematch of the national championship game during the first week of the 2026-27 college-basketball season, the NCAA announced Wednesday.

That rematch is scheduled for Nov. 6.

The contest will take place at TD Garden in Massachusetts, making it a neutral-site game. Given its location on the East Coast, however, UConn may have the fans on their side.

Prior to the national championship game, UConn and Michigan had never played each other during the Dan Hurley era. Hurley, who has led the team to six NCAA tournament appearances and two national championships in eight seasons, managed to avoid Michigan until the final game of the 2025-26 season. Following that matchup, Hurley will be looking for his first win against Michigan with UConn.

As fans might expect, the national-championship rematch should be a good one. Both Michigan and UConn rank highly among analysts who have put out a way too early top-25 men’s basketball ranking so far. Both teams are bringing back strong core players that helped lead those teams to the national-championship game.

The NCAA is clearly prioritizing big matchups early in the college-basketball season. On Tuesday, it was revealed that the UConn women’s team will take on South Carolina on Nov. 24. That matchup will be a rematch of the women’s Final Four, which saw both teams square off in a contentious game. Coaches Geno Auriemma and Dawn Staley were involved in a tense altercation postgame, which led to multiple apologies after the fact.

Both contests should draw massive ratings, which is exactly what the NCAA is looking for early in the college-basketball season.

  • There, the monarch delivered the King's Speech, written by the government to outline policies and proposed legislation for the new parliamentary session

King CharlesandQueen Camillahad a regal day in some historic headpieces.

The royal couple attended the State Opening of Parliament in London on Wednesday, May 13, marking the formal start of the parliamentary year and setting the government's agenda for the session.

King Charles, 77, and Queen Camilla, 78, traveled from Buckingham Palace to the Houses of Parliament in a horse-drawn carriage through the streets of London. They then entered the House of Lords chamber in a grand procession.

King Charles wore theImperial State Crownduring the ceremony. Hefirst wore the historic headpieceat his coronation in May 2023. Although he was officially crowned with the St. Edward's Crown, which is only used to crown a new king or queen during the coronation ceremony, he swapped it for the Imperial State Crown toward the end of the service.

The crown, which dates back to the 1937 coronation of King George VI, is made of gold and set with 2,868 diamonds, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds, 269 pearls and four rubies.

King Charles has previously worn the Imperial State Crown for other State Openings of Parliament since the start of his reign. It was displayed onQueen Elizabeth's coffin during her funeral in September 2022.

Meanwhile, Queen Camilla sported regal headwear of her own, donning the Diamond Diadem.

Camillafirst wore the headpiece, also called the George IV State Diadem, at the first State Opening of Parliament of her husband's reign in November 2023. The diadem was made for the 1820 coronation of King George IV — and it's what the monarch wore on his way to Westminster Abbey for his crowning ceremony.

Since King George IV, the Diamond Diadem has been worn by every British queen, whether they reigned or were consorts: Queen Adelaide, Queen Victoria, Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) and Queen Elizabeth.

The diadem moment comes weeks afterQueen Camilla went without a tiaraat the state dinner hosted by President Donald Trump at the White House during the royals' visit to the United States.

During the State Opening of Parliament, King Charles delivered the King's Speech, which is written by the government and contains an outline of its policies and proposed legislation for the new parliamentary session.

Throughout her historic 70-year reign, Queen Elizabeth would sport the Imperial State Crown during the State Opening of Parliament annually. However, as she got older, she would opt for a lighterdiademor one of hersignature wide-brimmed hatsfor the event steeped in tradition. Since the crown weighs over 2 lbs, it's understandable why the late sovereign made the switch.

Queen Elizabeth spoke about the challenge of reading the speechat the State Opening of Parliament while trying to balance the heavy headpiece in the documentaryThe Coronation:"You can’t look down to read the speech, you have to take the speech up. Because if you did, your neck would break — it would fall off. So there are some disadvantages to crowns, but otherwise, they’re quite important things."

Although King Charles has attended the State Opening of Parliament as monarch in recent years, he first attended the event in 1970 and attended the event several times before the start of his reign, accompanying his mother.

He memorably stepped in for Queen Elizabeth at the event in May 2022. Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen, who died in September 2022 at age 96, wouldmiss the event due to "episodic mobility problems."For the first time,Charles represented his motherand read the Queen's Speech.

MIAMI GARDENS ― When Miami Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis was entering the NFL Draft, some used Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts as a comparison.

New Dolphins passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo called plays for Hurts and the Eagles last season. So does Patullo see similarities?

"I haven't been with him, you know, enough," Patullo said of Willis. "Jalen's big thing is, you know, he's won a lot of games and he finds ways to win. You know, I think that's kind of what he's proven and that's what's critical about his game. But you can see some of the similarities, I think, just kind of the way they move and they're able to extend plays. And I think that's why guys like Malik and Jalen and even Patrick Mahomes, can be. When you can extend plays, defense is in a bind."

Patullo expanded on their mobility.

"Now they've got to play for that extra second longer," Patullo said. "You know, the rush gets there, you know, it's three seconds now, it turns to five, six, seven seconds. And there's certain coverages that you can eliminate because the guys can run. So it is definitely a weapon for sure."

Patullo joined the Eagles in 2021 as passing game coordinator under Nick Sirianni. It was Hurts' second season and the quarterback would go on to three Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl win.

How can Patullo help Willis grow?

"I think really when you start off, it's where you got to have some patience, right?" Patullo said. "You've got to find out what his game is and really where you want to take his game. And so I think the biggest thing, you know, if you watch Jalen's game, he's matured every year, right? People just said, 'Oh, okay, he's coming in. We've got to stop this.' Well, then he changed the next year. So it's just making those jumps. So it's, you know, if you watch Malik even do now, he's made jumps each year, you know, the more he's played, he's made jumps."

Miami Dolphins hope Malik Willis can do Jalen Hurts things

Hurts and Willis are both physically strong. And they have strong arms and a desire to take deep shots.

Another way Willis and Hurts may be similar is that neither is especially vocal.

"I think really when you do that kind of stuff, right, it's private conversations at times where you want to say like, 'Hey, this is when we need you to step up,'" Patullo said. "But I do think the one trait that Jalen has, and I can see Malik, they understand the importance of things. So when it's a big moment, or it's important, or we gotta be on something, you can already sense that he knows, 'Okay, this is when I need to step up.' And that's critical. That's when you know you've got a real dude that can do that kind of stuff."

Patullo likes the way Willis engages his teammates.

"I think that's what Jalen's been able to do throughout his career, you know, and just building it around him and making sure everybody trusts everybody," Patullo said. "Everybody's on the same page as the quarterback and, you know, Malik's done a great job right now, just leading the offense, right, by example in the classroom, on the field, with his physical training center that he's doing, and just taking that next step."

Today in horrifying metaphors, King Charles is reportedly being pressured to “lance the boil” that is the York family. And apparently said pressure is coming from Queen Camilla.

A source says Her Majesty is “leading the anti-York faction” and is “instrumental” in attempts to push out Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie amid their father ex-Prince Andrew’s scandals.

“Her attitude is that they are all a stain on the monarchy,” an insider tells The Daily Mail, nothing that Queen Camilla (and Prince William) are pushing for “clearer action to distance the institution from the entire York branch of the family. The King is still very fond of Beatrice and Eugenie though. William isn’t as close to Beatrice and Eugenie as Harry is but in the past few years, he has invited Beatrice and Eugenie as well as other cousins to help him and Catherine host one of the Buckingham Palace garden parties. They weren’t there at this year’s one on Friday. Only Zara was there out of the cousins. At the moment their presence at any royal event is going to completely overshadow everything.”

The source notes that Kate and William didn’t congratulate Princess Eugenie on news of her third pregnancy, saying “The way he and Kate have pointedly not publicly welcomed the baby news is a sign of how things have changed.’

Meanwhile, royal expert Phil Dampier says “Relations between the Yorks and the rest of the royals are at an all time low. If moves are being made to take Andrew out of the line of succession there must be a possibility that Beatrice and Eugenie, as well as their children, will also be taken out, lancing the boil once and for all.”

He adds that “It seems ridiculous that when Eugenie’s third child arrives he or she will be above Princess Anne for example. But that’s the system. Times are changing fast and if the future of the monarchy is at stake I think the King, followed by William, will take appropriate action.”

A Ballerina's Tale (2015)

Misty Copeland in 'A Ballerina's Tale'

Misty Copeland in 'A Ballerina's Tale'.

Misty Copeland is one of the most well-known names in modern American ballet, and her story — told comprehensively for the first time in this 2015 documentary narrated by Copeland herself — is the kind that can inspire an entire generation of future performers. From starting formal dance training as a teenager to the injuries, body shaming, and racial slights she endured during her rise, Copeland isn’t your mother’s prima ballerina.

What she is, however, is the first Black woman ever promoted to principal dancer status in American Ballet Theater’s history, and her story evokes just as much emotion as her dancing. The documentary was crowdfunded, thanks in part to a donation by Prince, so consider *A Ballerina’s Tale* a Prince-endorsed option. —*I.G.*

Long before he became an unexpected gay icon, the Babadook was delivering visceral scares that simultaneously pulled on our heartstrings. The movie constantly makes us question whether the central troubled child (Noah Wiseman) is truly connected to a storybook monster, or if he — and perhaps even his mother (played to chilling perfection by Essie Davis) — is declining psychologically. This is a particularly bleak, scary movie for parents, proving we can never keep our children fully safe and stable. —*Chris Snellgrove*

In this dark comedy from legendary director Roger Corman, definitive that-guy actor Dick Miller scored his greatest leading-man role as Walter Paisley, a busboy at a beatnik café. Although he’s decidedly out of place in the venue, he falls for his co-worker, Carla (Barboura Morris), and tries to make time with her by making a bust of her. Walter accidentally kills his neighbor’s cat and tries to hide his crime by covering it in plaster, but when Carla and her pals decide the makeshift tomb is high art, he tries to reproduce it with larger subjects… and that’s when things *really* get dark. —*Will Harris*

One of the more fascinating films of the past few decades, this Richard Linklater joint shows the highs and lows of growing up, as seen through the eyes of Mason (Ellar Coltrane), his sister (Lorelei Linklater), and his parents (Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke). What makes it so fascinating, however, is that Linklater filmed the feature for more than a dozen years, using the same cast and capturing various life vignettes during each production session. It’s a remarkable piece of cinema, one that deftly balances drama and comedy with plenty of heart. —*W.H.*

Elaine Stritch was the consummate New York actress. What resulted is a candid, emotional, and often funny look at a lifelong performer coming to grips with the end of her career and time on Earth.

*Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me* is a must-see documentary for Broadway lovers, theater history buffs, and anyone who is inspired by people who continue to pursue their passions through their twilight years. The internet had only been publicly available for five years when Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott released *Enemy of the State*, a political action thriller underscored by a growing concern that personal privacy rights were being eroded and might soon be gone forever. Will Smith stars as Robert Clayton Dean, a lawyer whose career, family, and personal life are targeted after he unwittingly receives evidence of a Congressman’s murder. Now facing off against a crooked NSA agent (Jon Voight), who is desperate to pass legislation that would expand his agency’s ability to secretly surveil the public — and to cover up his role in the Congressional murder — Robert must work with Brill (Gene Hackman), an off-the-grid former NSA agent who knows what the agency is capable of, to clear his name and reunite with his family. *—I.G.*

One of the best performances of 2025 belongs to a first-time actor — who also happens to be a dog. The horror film *Good Boy* is one of the most creative and technically innovative independent movies produced in recent memory, but the premise is simple. A sick man and his dog move to a rural home where the man grows sicker, and the dog starts encountering supernatural entities. *Good Boy* is told from the dog’s perspective, so dialogue is limited. But writer-director Ben Leonberg uses soundscapes, music, cinematic techniques, and his own pup to create a low-budget, high-reward supernatural horror that will remind you why dogs are man’s best friend. *—I.G. *

With Fats in tow, he returns to his hometown and reunites with an old flame (Ann-Margret), but his puppet seems far less enamored by the couple’s rekindling. A brutal and affecting revenge thriller set in 1825 in the Tasmanian outback, *The Nightingale* is a difficult watch, but not a gratuitous one. While the film does feature a hefty amount of sexual and run-of-the-mill violence, the moments of tenderness between the film’s leads — an Irish convict named Clare (Aisling Franciosi), who is seeking revenge on a British officer for wrongs committed against her family, and an Aboriginal tracker nicknamed Billy (Baykali Ganambarr), who is traumatized by the way the British have treated his people — are well-earned and beautifully acted.

Chilling and horrifying, the plot is propelled by moments of sadism, many of them committed by a lieutenant named Hawkins (Sam Claflin) whose psychopathic behavior will quickly erase any memories you have of him in *The Hunger Games* or *Daisy Jones & the Six*. *—I.G.*

Personal Shopper (2016)

Twins have a unique connection on Earth, but does that bond extend into the afterlife? Director Olivier Assayas explores this idea in his supernatural, psychological thriller *Personal Shopper*. Kristen Stewart stars as Maureen, an American living in Paris and working for a supermodel named Kyra. Maureen is also mourning the death of her twin brother, Lewis, a self-professed medium who died from a genetic condition and promised to contact her from the other side.

As she waits for his supernatural signal, Maureen finds herself experiencing other apparitions, all of which are heightened after she is involved in a homicidal investigation. EW’s critic writes that “Stewart, who appears in nearly every scene, is intensely watchable, a coiled spring.” *—I.G.*

A VHS player with a videotape of ‘The Shining’ from 'Room 237'.

It’s one thing to make a film about the making of a film, but with *Room 237*, Rodney Ascher has done something far more intriguing with his nine-segment exploration of Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of *The Shining** *by Stephen King. Ascher dissects theories about everything from the movie’s arguably Native American subtext (given the Overlook supposedly rests on a Native American burial mound) to the claim that Kubrick allegedly directed the Apollo 11 moon landing footage. Whether you believe these claims or not, it’s still a fascinating documentary that caters to conspiratorial film buffs. —*W.H.*

Sleeping With Other People (2015)

Jason Sudeikis as Jake and Alison Brie as Lainey in 'Sleeping With Other People'

Jason Sudeikis as Jake and Alison Brie as Lainey in 'Sleeping With Other People'. Linda Kallerus

Cheaters never prosper, except in *Sleeping With Other People*, a rom-com about two intimacy-challenged adults who find salvation in each other. After losing their virginities to one another in college, Jake and Lainey (Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie) reconnect after 12 years apart and — despite their admitted sexual attraction and chemistry — decide to just be friends. But when their platonic relationship becomes complicated by their romantic feelings, the two struggle not to let their past mistakes define their future.

A modern, dirtier, more drug-filled version of *When Harry Met Sally *(1989), *Sleeping With Other People* is, as EW’s critic writes, “a smart, flawed movie about smart, flawed people.” If you’re going to watch one movie where the main characters show up at a children’s birthday high on MDMA, let it be this one. *—I.G.*

John Candy as Barf, Lorene Yarnell as Dot Matrix (voice: Joan Rivers), Daphne Zuniga as Princess Vespa, and Bill Pullman Lone Starr in 'Spaceballs'.

For the ultimate science fiction genre experience, consider Mel Brooks’ adventure spoof, *Spaceballs*. A satire that parodies beloved films like *Planet of the Apes *(1968), *2001: A Space Odyssey* (1968), *Star Wars *(1977), and *Alien *(1979), *Spaceballs* may bring the jokes, but it has easily the most heart of any Brooks movie. The Schwartz will be with us once again: There's an upcoming sequel expected to be released in 2027. *—I.G.*

*Tigers Are Not Afraid *is too vast and beautiful to be restricted to one genre. A fusion of fantasy, crime, horror, and documentary-style filmmaking, this work was rejected by major festival circuits before being accepted into a horror fest where it was championed by genre fans.

Following a Mexican child’s attempts to use three wishes to seek vengeance against the drug cartel that killed her mother, the film combines magical realism and hard-hitting historical and current realities to create something haunting, horrible, and true. Writer-director Issa López cited Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, and Guillermo del Toro as major influences, and all three have since declared themselves fans of her films. —*I.G.*

You’ve seen *Cinderella*, but not like this. The classic fairy tale gets a body horror makeover in *The Ugly Stepsister*,* *an impressive debut from Norwegian filmmaker Emilie Blichfeldt. Told from the perspective of Cinderella’s ugly stepsister, Elvira, this stylized satire follows as Elvira is forced to undergo a string of painful cosmetic procedures to help her attract the Prince at his upcoming ball. *The Ugly Stepsister *has a lot to say about patriarchy and beauty standards, and the film delivers its message through graphic imagery and action. The movie has David Cronenberg’s energy, but with Sofia Coppola's whimsical aesthetic, and the combination is dazzling and jarring. —*I.G.*

Eric Clapton Ditches Encore After He’s Hit in the Chest by Object Thrown by Fan

Eric Clapton had a bit of a shock when an overzealous fan launched an object at him during a concert.

The music icon, 81, was in the midst of a concert at the Movistar Arena in Madrid, Spain, on Thursday when an object was thrown at him from the audience. Video footage shared by fans showed Clapton walking off stage right after he had finished performing “Cocaine” when he was suddenly struck by what looked like a vinyl record, Guitar World reported. The item bounced off his chest, shocking the music legend before he continued walking offstage. Check out the fan video below:

Had he returned for the expected encore, it would have been "Before You Accuse Me," according to Guitar World. Despite the bad experience in Spain, Clapton will be back onstage soon. He's expected to head out on tour in North America this fall.

The English beauty, 82, who is known for her marriages to Beatles legend George Harrison andClapton, met Harrison in 1964 on the set of the Beatles movie A Hard Day’s Night. However, the couple divorced in 1977, and she went on to marry Clapton in 1979. Now, the legendary rocker wife saw her ex in concert recently when he took the stage for two intimate concerts in England.

“Fabulous to see Eric in the relatively intimate G-Live venue in Guildford on Monday evening. Great to hear ‘Old Love’, ‘Layla’ and ‘Wonderful Tonight’ (amongst others) live again,” Boyd captioned the photo, which showed Clapton standing on stage with a guitar in his hands.

Interestingly, Boyd mentioned Clapton’s famous song “Layla,” which he performed with his band Derek and the Dominoes. Legend has always said that the song was always inspired by Clapton’s secret love for Boyd while she was married to Harrison.

“I don’t want to overly talk about my children because I don’t want to bring them into this — that’s the very thing I’ve been trying not to do," the British prime minister told reporters while campaigning in July 2024, perThe Independent. He was appointed byKing Charleslater that month.

Keir added, "They’re understandably at an age where this is very impactful on them, which is why I’ve been so fiercely protective of them for many years now and will continue to try to be so."

The British politician has also kept his wife largely out of the spotlight. He toldThe Sunday Timesin June 2024 that the pair had agreed Victoria wouldn't do interviews, and she would continue working in occupational health after his appointment as prime minister.

Most recently, Keir has faced calls to resign from his Labour Party lawmakers amid turmoil within his political party.

Raised just outside of London, Victoria studied law and sociology at Cardiff University, perThe Guardian.

Though she became a lawyer after graduating, she later pivoted to occupational health work for the National Health Service (NHS).

When she was hanging up the phone, Keir overheard her say, "Who the f--- does he think he is?"

“You might think ‘not the best of starts,’ but it was absolutely classic Vic,” he said. “Very sassy, very down-to-earth, no nonsense from anyone — including from me.”

Though Keir has described his wife as "grounded" and "streetwise," he has also been open about how their leap into public life has affected her.

"I’m not going to pretend that it’s easy for her, because it isn’t," the prime minister toldThe Sunday Times. "She wants to get on with her life. She doesn’t want to push herself into the limelight."

To maintain some privacy, Keir said they agreed not to put their kids' names "in the public domain" and that Victoria will do no interviews.

He added, "It is a massive intrusion when you have media outside the house. It is inhibiting on the whole family. That does impact on her and will do even more if we’re privileged enough to get it over the line.”
