- R&B legend Peabo Bryson has died.

- The singer of "Beauty and the Beast," "A Whole New World," and "Tonight, I Celebrate My Love" was 75.

- He had famously collaborated with Celine Dion and Roberta Flack.

The music world lost one of its most nostalgic voices on Tuesday with the passing of Peabo Bryson, best known for the theme songs of Disney's *Beauty and the Beast* and *Aladdin*. He was 75.

The two-time Grammy Award winner had suffered a stroke days earlier, his rep confirmed, and was under medical care. When he died on June 2, Bryson was surrounded by family.

“We are tremendously moved by the outpouring of love, prayers and support from fans, friends, and colleagues around the world,” Bryson's family said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit. His legacy and music will live on for generations to come.”

Bryson recorded 20 studio albums over his 50-year career, most recently 2026's *Grace*. The South Carolina native first found fame as a duet partner with Roberta Flack on 1983's "Tonight, I Celebrate My Love," considered one of the greatest love ballads of the decade.

The Evolution of 'Beauty and the Beast'

In 1991, he recorded "Beauty and the Beast" with Celine Dion for the animated classic, earning an Oscar, Grammy, and Golden Globe. The following year, he struck gold again with Regina Belle on "A Whole New World (Aladdin's Theme)." The pop ballad, which plays during *Aladdin*'s closing credits, peaked at No. 1 on the *Billboard* Hot 100 — bumping Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" from the top of the charts.

"I think the secret to a really good duet is that you have to fall a little bit in love with your duet partner," Bryson told *Tatler Asia* in 2015. "I was very fortunate in finding a duet partner in Roberta Flack who really knew what a duet was and knew how to play to a person's strengths and weaknesses equally."

He did exactly that with Dion, a French-Canadian powerhouse who was still relatively new to American audiences in 1991 and seemed timid in the recording studio.

"I looked across at her, and she looked back at me and what went on from the point of becoming relaxed was extremely intimate," Bryson recalled. "You can't buy that. You can record it, though."

Bryson, a father of two, suffered a heart attack in 2019 yet made a full recovery. "I was on the other side long enough to make friends,” Bryson told 11Alive ahead of his comeback performance in Atlanta that year. “Flatlining is different... I’m healthy and anxious, and excited to be back on stage at this particular point.”

Last year, Bryson announced his Golden Touch Tour to celebrate his 50 years in music. "It's surreal," he said. "Most people don't get to say they've had a five-decade career in anything, let alone music. But what makes it even more special is that I almost didn't make it to see this milestone."

After his passing on Tuesday, Bryson's family remembered the beloved artist for serving as "the soundtrack to some of life’s most cherished moments. His music carried generations through joyful celebrations, great love stories and enduring moments of comfort and inspiration, creating a legacy that will forever live in the hearts of those who loved him and the countless lives he touched through song."

The statement continued, "In this deeply difficult moment, the family asks for privacy as they mourn the loss of a beloved husband, father, family member, friend and artist whose impact extended far beyond the stage."

Thanks in large part to Taylor Sheridan’s ever-growing *Yellowstone* empire, the Western genre has enjoyed a healthy resurgence on the small screen. In fact, the popularity of the Dutton clan's various prequels, sequels, and spinoffs — including the recently launched *Dutton Ranch* — has fueled fans' appetites for even more horse operas, shoot-'em-ups, and other rootin' tootin' fare.

Luckily, the streaming space is packed with enough Westerns — from genre-defining classics starring Clint Eastwood to modern masterpieces… also starring Clint Eastwood — to fill Montana’s big sky. ** has already picked out six Western movies to stream on Netflix, but now we're going off the reservation to wrangle up even more prime picks offered on a variety of streaming platforms.

So before you ride off into the sunset, don't miss the 10 best Western movies streaming now.

3:10 to Yuma (2007)

Christian Bale as Dan Evans and Russell Crowe as Ben Wade in '3:10 to Yuma'

One of the better Western remakes to hit the big screen, *3:10 to Yuma *(based on Elmore Leonard's short story) spins a gripping yarn from a simple premise. It follows strapped family man Dan Evans (Christian Bale) as he takes on the not-so-easy task of escorting ruthless outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) to his train so he can stand trial for his crimes.

Under the deft direction of James Mangold, this seemingly straightforward set-up delivers a propulsive mix of thrilling action, morally complex characterizations, and an emotional twist that turns the 1957 original's ending on its head. It's all supported by standout performances from both leads, making for a thrilling double-hander.

Where to watch *3:10 to Yuma: *Amazon Prime Video (to rent)

Bone Tomahawk (2015)

Richard Jenkins as Chicory and Kurt Russell as Sheriff Franklin Hunt in 'Bone Tomahawk'

Richard Jenkins as Chicory and Kurt Russell as Sheriff Franklin Hunt in 'Bone Tomahawk'.

Scott Everett White

Given that *Bone Tomahawk** *stars Kurt Russell as a grizzled, small-town sheriff sporting bushy facial hair in the 19th-century American Frontier, the film could be mistaken for a by-the-numbers Western where the white hats prevail over the black hats.

At least, that's the case until you’re introduced to the latter group: nightmare-conjuring, cave-dwelling cannibals that may hold the title for committing the most disturbing disembowelment the medium's ever seen. It’s the juxtaposition of the film’s familiar premise — which sees Russell's lawman put together a posse of gun-slinging do-gooders (Patrick Wilson, Richard Jenkins, Matthew Fox) for a rescue mission — against its shocking horror elements, that ensures *Bone Tomahawk* is anything but just another day at the O.K. Corral.

A stylish subversion of spaghetti Westerns, Quentin Tarantino's *Django Unchained* serves up a familiar cocktail of the auteur's signatures, from stomach-churning violence and comedic banter to an expletive-spewing Samuel L. Jackson and several crowd-pleasing references and cameos.

But it is more than just a typical Tarantino joint. *Django Unchained*'s vengeance-fueled tale of an Antebellum-era slave (Jamie Foxx) and German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) joining forces to take down a vile plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio) delivers a romp even better than the considerable sum of its parts. All that, and the film — which scored Tarantino a writing Oscar and Waltz his second Best Supporting Actor statuette — also spawned a ubiquitous DiCaprio meme.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)

Clint Eastwood as Blondie in 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly'

Clint Eastwood as Blondie in 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly'.

ARTURO GONZALEZ/Ronald Grant Archive/Mary Evans/Everett

Like John Wayne, Clint Eastwood made his mark wielding a six-shooter and wearing a Stetson. Unlike his laconic predecessor, Eastwood had to do so overseas in Italy, where his output was grittier, weirder, and more violent — perhaps the defining characteristics of Sergio Leone's *The Good, the Bad and the Ugly*.

In Eastwood, Leone found a persona that seemed mythic, and tied him together in an unofficial “Man with No Name” trilogy along with *A Fistful of Dollars *(1964) and *For a Few Dollars More *(1965). The filmmaker’s style — stunning wide shots, tension-ratcheting close-ups, and sweeping, operatic scores — has been perpetually imitated but never duplicated. Toss in an engrossing yarn involving a hunt for treasure amid the American Civil War, and this easily earns its rep as an all-time great.

Hell or High Water (2016)

Like so many Westerns, *Hell or High Water*’s plot finds a down-on-its-luck family desperately fighting to keep their ranch. But that’s where the familiarities end, as the Best Picture nominee refreshingly turns the trope on its head. Written by Taylor Sheridan — a few years before spawning his Dutton empire on TV — the film sees Texas siblings Toby (Chris Pine) and Tanner (Ben Foster) embark on a bank-robbing spree against the very financial institution attempting to foreclose on their land.

Equal parts compelling crime thriller and nuanced neo-Western, it also stars Jeff Bridges — who nabbed a Best Supporting Actor nomination — and future *Yellowstone* star Gil Birmingham as the wily Texas Rangers tasked with bringing the brothers to justice.

No Country for Old Men (2007)

Long before Josh Brolin discovered a mysterious black hole in the sci-fi neo-Western *Outer Range*, he stumbled upon a briefcase full of Benjamins as Llewelyn Moss in the Coen brothers' instant-classic *No Country for Old Men*. Of course, the Best Picture winner is best remembered for its villain, Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem), a sinister, stone-faced hitman with a pageboy coif and brutally lethal cattle gun.

While Bardem — who scored a Best Supporting Actor Oscar — has deservedly become the movie's terrifying poster child, its other main players, Brolin and Tommy Lee Jones, are also compelling in this slow-burn thriller about three complex men caught in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse.

The Searchers (1956)

Long before the likes of Clint Eastwood and Kevin Costner saddled up, Hollywood's quintessential cowboy was John Wayne — besting his contemporary Gary Cooper by about 40 Westerns. Given that The Duke appeared in nearly 100 genre entries across four decades, you'd have better luck panning for gold in a bathtub than picking a favorite.

That said, John Ford's *The Searchers *isn't just a great Wayne Western, but also a subversive masterpiece — ranked among EW's top 100 of all time — that doesn't rest on the laurels of its accomplished lead. Instead, it allows him to expand his range in a darker, fascinatingly nuanced take on a genre that had begun to spin its wheels by the mid-1950s.

When you’re talking ensemble Westerns of the ’80s and ’90s, the good (*Tombstone*, *The Quick and the Dead*), the bad (*Young Guns*), and the ugly (*Young Guns II*) tend to dominate the conversation. But Lawrence Kasdan’s *Silverado* — arguably the best of the bunch — is often left to the tumbleweeds.

***Get your daily dose of entertainment news, celebrity updates, and what to watch with our ******EW Dispatch newsletter******.***

While its pulpy story of mismatched gunslingers teaming up to take down a corrupt sheriff is as enduring as an old saddle bag, the well-trodden material is elevated by a sprawling cast that includes Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Danny Glover, Rosanna Arquette, Brian Dennehy, John Cleese, and a scenery-chewing Jeff Goldblum as an especially slimy secondary villain. Heck, even future genre mainstay Kevin Costner makes his oater debut as a spunky, baby-faced sharpshooter.

Where to watch *Silverado: *MGM+

Tombstone (1993)

Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp and Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday in 'Tombstone'

John Bramley/Buena Vista Pictures/Everett

In the wake of Val Kilmer's 2025 death, there’s been renewed interest in this Western featuring the actor's iconic portrayal of Doc Holliday. But even before fans sought to revisit the tuberculosis-stricken — but still swaggering — gunslinger, *Tombstone* was a cult favorite that's grown increasingly popular since its original mixed reception. Complemented by a stacked cast, including Kurt Russell as Doc’s bestie Wyatt Earp, the movie plays like a “greatest hits” collection of genre archetypes and tropes.

Rather than feeling forced or stitched together, its familiar elements — such as the O.K. Corral showdown — are seamlessly blended and layered in a way that maybe didn't earn it any artsy awards, but won legions of loyal fans that happily went along for the ride.

Where to watch *Tombstone: *Amazon Prime Video (to rent)

Unforgiven (1992)

Gene Hackman as Little Bill Daggett in 'Unforgiven'

Gene Hackman as Little Bill Daggett in 'Unforgiven'.

Warner Bros/Everett

Nearly 30 years after saddling up for *A Fistful of Dollars* — and cementing his place as Hollywood's most coveted cowboy — Clint Eastwood earned his first Best Actor nomination as a pulled-from-retirement outlaw in *Unforgiven*.

Already respected for his work as an actor-director — *High Plains Drifter *(1973), *The Outlaw Josey Wales *(1976), and *Pale Rider *(1985) — Eastwood blew a big, bloody hole through the notion of a romanticized Old West with this dark, violent tale of an aging killer clashing with a ruthless, corrupt small town sheriff (Gene Hackman).

The film earned Hackman his second Oscar and, while Eastwood didn't win for Best Actor, he bagged Best Picture and Best Director trophies for what many consider to be his masterpiece.

Twenty years after "Tim McGraw" introduced Taylor Swift to country radio, the singer is sounding country again — and perhaps preparing for another run on country radio.

For Disney and Pixar's "Toy Story 5," Swift returns to the hallmarks that defined her earliest work: harmonica, nostalgic storytelling and vivid details pulled from everyday life.

The song opens with memories of "the daze of the blades of the grass in summer" and "the free fall of being younger," imagery that feels worlds away from the synth-pop sheen of "Midnights" or the literary references of "The Tortured Poets Department."

Instead, the track recalls the songwriter who built a career turning small moments into universal stories.

A billboard in Midtown Nashville teases Taylor Swift's new song, "I Knew It, I Knew You," from Disney and Pixar's "Toy Story 5" ahead of its June 5, 2026 release. June 3, 2026.

Throughout the song, Swift paints scenes rather than delivering punchlines: remembering "the sound of your bare footsteps running wild," describing a friend's emotions as "a mood ring changing colors" and revisiting a relationship that survived the passing of time.

"Life has ways of leaving those days behind," she sings.

The production from longtime producer and collaborator, Jack Antonoff, is driven by harmonica, drum and piano instrumentation. "I Knew It, I Knew You" feels closer to songs such as "The Best Day," "Dorothea" and "Betty."

From fan to songwriter

Swift shared on X how the song struck a personal chord with her younger self.

After releasing the song, the singer shared a home video of herself as a young child marching in a red cowgirl hat and reflected on what the project meant to her.

"Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time," Swift wrote on social media. "Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once."

Calling herself a "Toy Story kid from the age of 5 til now," she thanked director Andrew Stanton for envisioning her for the project years ago and praised composer Randy Newman for creating the franchise's musical world.

She added that she and longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff wrote "I Knew It, I Knew You" with "so much adoration" for the characters that shaped their childhoods.

How Taylor Swift's 'Toy Story 5' collaboration came together

The road to "I Knew It, I Knew You" began more than a month before Swift officially announced the song.

On April 30, fans noticed a mysterious countdown briefly appear on Swift's website. The timer featured a blue-sky background and white clouds reminiscent of Disney and Pixar's "Toy Story" franchise. Although the countdown disappeared after only a few minutes, Swifties spent weeks dissecting screenshots and theorizing about a possible connection to the upcoming film.

Speculation intensified in late May. Fans spotted billboards in many cities, including Chicago, London, Dallas and Nashville. The advertisements featured the franchise's signature cloud-filled sky and the letters "TS" — initials shared by both Taylor Swift and "Toy Story." Some fans also pointed out the designs appeared to contain 13 clouds, the singer's favorite number.

Questions about the rumors eventually reached Pixar executives. During an interview at Pixar headquarters, "Toy Story 5" director Andrew Stanton acknowledged the online speculation and called it a "freakin' honor." While Stanton denied one fan theory that Swift performed the movie's ending song, he stopped short of ruling out her involvement in the project entirely.

Pixar's social media accounts began leaning into the excitement over the next few days. One post featured the cowgirl character Jessie dancing to Swift's hit "Shake It Off." On June 3, the studio released 12 images inspired by Swift's 12 studio albums. The references ranged from Woody holding a guitar to represent Swift's self-titled debut album to a toy snake referencing "Reputation."

The campaign culminated on June 1 when a second countdown appeared on Swift's website. After the timer expired, Swift announced "I Knew It, I Knew You," an original song from "Toy Story 5." Fans could immediately purchase collector's-edition CD singles for $3.99 featuring the song along with acoustic and piano versions.

The collaboration also arrives on the 20th anniversary of "Tim McGraw," the song that launched Swift's career in 2006. Since then, Swift has contributed music to films including "Hannah Montana: The Movie," "The Hunger Games," "Cats" and "Where the Crawdads Sing."

"Toy Story 5" will hit theaters June 19.

- "We called you. We wanted you," Marlon said.

- "Next time," Goldberg replied at the Hot Topics table.

Shawn and Marlon Wayans had hoped to say "wazzup" to Whoopi Goldberg on the set of Scary Movie — but, as the writer-producers of the satirical film series revealed Thursday on *The View*, Goldberg declined a cameo in the newest installment.

The brothers appeared on the live talk show to promote *Scary Movie*'s Friday release, and fielded a question from the cohosts about which stars they wanted — but ultimately didn't get — for cameos in the movie.

The pair said that they reached out to rapper Cardi B, though her cameo ultimately didn't happen, while Goldberg turned to them to ask, "Anybody I know?"

Shawn replied, "She's talking about her!" while Goldberg turned toward the audience and flashed a wink.

"We called you, we wanted you!" Marlon maintained, while Shawn asked, "You didn't get our call, Whoopi?"

Shawn then turned toward his brother, reminding him that they had a particular scene in mind that the Oscar-winning *Ghost* actress.

10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)

Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Michelle and John Goodman as Howard in '10 Cloverfield Lane'

This spiritual sequel to 2008's *Cloverfield* takes an entirely different approach, forgoing found-footage cinematography and grand-scale set pieces in favor of an intimate setting and mesmerizing, character-driven storytelling. After being hit by another car while driving, a woman named Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) wakes up in a bunker also inhabited by a pair of men, Howard (John Goodman) and Emmett (John Gallagher Jr.). Howard tells Michelle he brought her there to save her life after a dangerous air contamination — but she soon discovers that things aren't quite as they seem.

Boasting grade-A performances by Winstead and Goodman, *10 Cloverfield Lane* is "lean, and taut, and tense, and moves with Swiss-clock precision," writes EW's critic. —*Kevin Jacobsen*

Coherence (2013)

Emily Foxler as Emily in 'Coherence'

When old friends reunite for a dinner party in a movie, you know something is about to go terribly awry. In *Coherence*, that "something" is the arrival of a close-passing comet — and the discovery of a house full of doppelgängers having an identical dinner party down the street. The plot is full of quantum-related twists and turns, but the film is grounded by the talented cast, which includes the late Nicholas Brendon (*Buffy the Vampire Slayer*) in a fun self-referential role as a former TV star.

The production is just as quirky as the premise: Director James Ward Byrkit wanted to make a low-budget film that was so stripped down, it didn't even have a script. Instead, he invited a bunch of actor friends to his living room, gave them basic character motivations, and let them improvise through the entire thing. The result, while occasionally messy, is thoroughly original. *—Janey Tracey*

Communion (1989)

Christopher Walken as Whitley Strieber in 'Communion'

Christopher Walken as Whitley Strieber in 'Communion'.

Critics didn't quite know what to make of this psychological sci-fi drama when it was released in 1989. Subverting tropes of the alien abduction subgenre, the film doesn't offer easy answers as it tells its story of a novelist (Christopher Walken) who has disturbing visions of extraterrestrial beings in a remote cabin. Decades later, some of the biggest criticisms of *Communion* are arguably among its most charming virtues, from Walken's idiosyncratic performance as a man on the verge of a nervous breakdown to the cheesy special effects. —*K.J.*

**Director:** Philippe Mora

**Cast:** Christopher Walken, Lindsay Crouse, Frances Sternhagen, Terry Hanauer, Andreas Katsulas

Donnie Darko (2001)

"I find it kind of funny/I find it kind of sad/The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had." So go the lyrics to "Mad World," a song expertly deployed in this wildly original sci-fi thriller about a moody teenager named Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal), who is troubled by visions of a figure in a monstrous rabbit costume. The entity warns a sleepwalking Donnie that the world will end in approximately 28 days and subsequently persuades him to carry out an escalating series of crimes in his community.

Writer-director Richard Kelly taps into the suburban alienation tackled frequently in film at the turn of the 21st century and goes deeper and more disturbing, with a fun sci-fi bent that's helped establish its cult classic status. —*K.J.*

The Endless (2018)

This low-budget sci-fi horror film may be underseen compared to more mainstream films in its subgenre, but its thrills can compete with some of the best of them. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who also directed and produced the film, star as brothers who escaped a UFO death cult in their childhood but grew up to lead lives of disappointment. Upon receiving a cassette tape from the group, the brothers agree to return to the camp for one day, where they discover a series of unexplained phenomena. EW's critic praises *The Endless* as "a thoughtful investigation into how our past and our families shape who we are — with plenty of scares and mind-bending twists." —*K.J.*

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

In this sci-fi classic, an extraterrestrial race is populating Earth with pods that systematically replace humans with alien duplicates. The film follows a quartet of friends who try to uncover the truth and alert the authorities before it's too late, eventually waging war against pod people. Featuring one of the most chilling endings of all time, *Invasion of the Body Snatchers* remains a tense thrill ride and a powerful commentary on paranoia. This was the second of multiple adaptations of Jack Finney's 1955 novel, *The Body Snatchers*, and, as EW's critic writes of the 1978 film, it "trades Cold War anxiety for post-Vietnam paranoia in ways that strengthen and sharpen the source material." —*K.J.***** Where to watch *Invasion of the Body Snatchers*: Amazon Prime Video

A Quiet Place: Day One (2024)

Joseph Quinn as Eric and Lupita Nyong'o as Sam in 'A Quiet Place: Day One'

Gareth Gatrell/Paramount Pictures

The first two *Quiet Place* films explored how a family adapts to a world where no one can make a sound for fear of being attacked by hypersensitive extraterrestrial predators. This sideways prequel takes it back to the beginning, where these alien creatures terrorize a New York City ill-prepared to fight back. It's the first day of the apocalypse, and the action centers on a cancer patient (Lupita Nyong'o) and a law student (Joseph Quinn) who team up for their own survival. EW's critic writes that *A Quiet Place: Day One* "ends up being quite touching in between scenes when it’s making you jump," thanks to Nyong'o and Quinn's heartfelt performances. —*K.J.*

Timecop (1994)

Jean-Claude Van Damme as Agent Max Walker in 'Timecop'

Universal Pictures/Courtesy Everett

Jean-Claude Van Damme's biggest box office success blends the actor's prolific martial arts experience with a knotty time-travel story. The action star plays Max Walker, an agent at the newly formed Time Enforcement Commission, where he is tasked with stopping criminals from altering the past. After uncovering a vast conspiracy by a corrupt senator, he discovers he might have the chance to rewrite history by going back in time to prevent his wife's tragic death. With high-concept emotional stakes and sleek visual effects, *Timecop *is an entertaining slice of '90s cheese. Plus, writes EW's critic, "Van Damme pulls off some novel stunts — his midair split will have you hitting the slow-motion button." —*K.J.*

**Director:** Peter Hyams

**Cast:** Jean-Claude Van Damme, Ron Silver, Mia Sara

The Vast of Night (2020)

This underrated sci-fi indie centers on a pair of teenage friends living in 1950s New Mexico who investigate a cryptic audio signal that suddenly interrupts a radio program. Putting the pieces together, they unravel a conspiracy that may suggest proof of alien life. With a budget of just $700,000, director Andrew Patterson pulls off a number of stunning shots, transporting us to a specific time and place. As EW wrote following the film's success, "Just the setting and veneer of the film — it's framed as an episode of a *Twilight Zone*-esque anthology TV series* *— should be enough for you to guess more or less where it's headed." —*K.J.*

WarGames (1983)

Ally Sheedy as Jennifer Mack and Matthew Broderick as David Lightman in 'WarGames'

Ally Sheedy as Jennifer Mack and Matthew Broderick as David Lightman in 'WarGames'.

An ‘80s movie about teenage Matthew Broderick accidentally hacking into a military supercomputer during the Cold War? It sounds hopelessly hokey, but it’s surprisingly well-written, entertaining, and even prescient, considering the word "hacking" wasn’t yet in the lexicon. *WarGames* has been credited with inspiring a generation of hackers and computer scientists, including Google cofounder Sergey Brin, and Ronald Reagan reportedly consulted with Congress and his Joint Chiefs of Staff about whether the plot of the movie was plausible.

Even the film’s creators didn’t expect *WarGames* to have that kind of impact: On the DVD commentary, director John Badham and the screenwriters said they were worried audiences wouldn’t find the premise believable, until a story about teen hackers breaking into the Department of Defense made headlines shortly after the movie opened. —*J.T.*

**Cast:** Matthew Broderick, Dabney Coleman, John Wood, Ally Sheedy
