What was the first challenge on America's Culinary Cup tonight, and who won it?
There were three rounds of cooking. After the first round, the top three chefs were safe and will get an advantage in the next commandment. After round two, three more chefs were safe, and then in round three, it was a four-way cookoff with the loser getting eliminated.
The first round was to make a dish, featuring the five mother sauces: Hollandaise, Bechamel, Velouté, Espagnole, or Tomate. The twist was the ACC board randomly assigned the sauces. The chefs didn't get to select their favorite.
As usual, Padma, Michael Cimarusti and Wylie Dufresne awarded points based on Taste, Creativity, Presentation and Mastery of the Commandment with each quality worth 5 points, so each judge's total would be 20 points for a cumulative possibility of a perfect 60 points.
The Top 3 were: Diana, Beverly and Matt, who were safe and didn't need to cook again.Diana 58Beverly 57Matt 56Emily 49Malyna 49Keith 41Buddha 40Cara 35Katie 34Chris 24
The second round was for the chefs to create their own mother sauce inspired by a comfort food from their childhood.
The Top 3 for the second challenge were Chris, Cara and Katie.

The scores were:

"There are a lot of talented people in this competition, so everything has to be perfect," Maylna said on exiting. "The small errors are what did me in. My journey ends here but I'm very grateful and made friends for life."
