Harry Potter steps back into the Wizarding World.

HBO conjured up the first look at its upcoming television adaptation of J.K. Rowling's beloved fantasy book series, which follows young Harry (Dominic McLaughlin) as he embarks on his very first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

On Tuesday, one day before the teaser dropped, HBO teased that something was a-brewin' when it posted a photo on Instagram of Harry making his way toward the quidditch pitch with his broom in hand. Eagle-eyed fans will also spot the Hufflepuff and Gryffindor flags draped across the stadium doors, as well as a hand-drawn one that reads, "Fred and George." So, some hijinks may already be underway.

Two years after its initial announcement, HBO streamer announced that it had officially found its golden trio in May 2025, tapping McLaughlin as Harry, Alastair Stout as Ron, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione. Joining them on their journey are Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, and more.

Several key members of the Hogwarts faculty have also been unveiled, including John Lithgow as Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as potions Professor Snape, Janet McTeer as transfiguration teacher Professor McGonagall, and Nick Frost as gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid.

Warner Bros. Discovery first announced that it greenlit a television adaptation of Harry Potter in April 2023, with CEO Casey Bloys noting at the time that the show would "dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years."

The reveal arrived just 12 years after the mega-popular movie iteration — which starred Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint — released its final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2, in 2011.

Rowling, who has long-courted controversy for her anti-trans views, serves as an executive producer on the project and has previously expressed that she is "looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series."

Production on the series started in July 2025, with McLaughlin revealing in an August 2025 interview that it was "a bit surreal" stepping onto its magical set.

Pratt also revealed that the television series will go beyond the scope of both the films and Rowling's novels. "[The books] are very much over Harry's shoulder, which is great, and that's how they played the film as well," he told 1883 Magazine. "And I think [showrunners] Francesca [Gardiner] and Mark [Mylod] have been audible about this in their interviews, there's just so much more that you get to see. You get to see all the teachers in their little rooms. You get to see Draco at home."

A release date for the first Harry Potter season has not been announced. Watch the teaser trailer above.
