The level of queer excellence to graduate from *RuPaul's Drag Race* season 4? Far too much. But that doesn't mean these ladies didn't have to fight tooth and (sparkly) nail to get there.

Season 4 icons Chad Michaels and Latrice Royale join the latest episode of *EW's BINGE* podcast to recall all the juicy drama and heartwarming sisterhood that went down on one of fans' favorite seasons of the Emmy-winning reality competition program, including a particularly tense exchange between Michaels and Phi Phi O'Hara that never made it to air. And, like all epic battles throughout world history, it began in a room filled with wigs.

"There was one night when they let us stay an extra hour to work on wigs.... She started in on me, and I said something like 'You know what Phi Phi? I was on *The Jay Leno Show*. I appeared on *The Jay Leno Show* as Cher,'" Michaels remembers of an earlier highlight in his pre-*Drag Race* career as a celebrity impersonator. "What have you done?' And she just goes, 'Yeah, you were on *The Jay Leno Show*... as a joke!' and I just, if my head could've exploded, it would've. But the tragedy of the story is that it was not caught on camera. It would've rivaled the Party City scene [between Sharon Needles and O'Hara]."

Royale admits she "missed" the moment because she was dealing with drama of her own: A wayward prop during the infamous boat-decorating challenge where the queens were tasked with making over personal wooden rafts and floating them down the runway.

"My boat didn't fit, remember? They had to rebuild my boat and I had to do my stuff the next day," the self-proclaimed "large and in charge, chunky yet funky" diva says. "They brought all those boats in made the same size, and, bitch, I was like, I can't squeeze up in this, not with my body on, I put on padding! So they had to take the boat apart and rebuild it while everybody was decorating their boat!"

Later, the pair stresses their love for both O'Hara and Willam, who was memorably disqualified from the competition for mysterious reasons.

"Willam is fierce," Michaels says, while Royale feels she has a "love fest" going on with the Emmy-nominated *EastSiders* actor as the queen she's "closest to now from the season."

"Me and Christopher, my husband, always say if there was ever some s— to really go down, there are a few handful of girls that you know will be there. Chad, Willam, Manila... these girls I *know* got your back," Royale explains.

Continues Michaels: "He'll surprise you. He'll just send you something in the mail out of random." The contents of such packages? Well, as Royale reveals: "Dildos! Poppers!"

Bianca Del Rio and Adore Delano are one of the most iconic mother-daughter pairings in all of pop culture history, but the adorable spark that eventually ignited between them nearly set the entire *RuPaul's Drag Race* set ablaze during the first few days of filming.

The season 6 icons stopped by the latest episode of *EW's BINGE* podcast, where Delano revealed to hosts Joey Nolfi and Jillian Sederholm that, despite their love for each other now, she initially asked the crew to maintain distance between them.

"I remember telling the producers to keep Bianca away from me because I hated her," Delano reveals as Del Rio cackles in the background. "We didn't meet each other until the second day. I've never been wrong about my winners. I'm obsessed with the show, I always clock them.... as soon as I met Bianca, I was like, 'F—, Goddammit, she's winning!'"

The pair quickly became fan favorites across what's typically regarded as one of the best seasons in *Drag Race* history, and their friendship has since grown after the cameras stopped rolling. Hungry viewers, however, have often called for Del Rio — whom RuPaul ultimately crowned as America's Next Drag Superstar back in 2014 — to return to the set for a long-speculated winner's season, though the whip-smart comedian says such a comeback is unlikely.

"It's a different element," Del Rio observes of the show's evolution, as the Emmy-winning series has skewed its aesthetic toward a younger — yet no less spectacular — crop of queens in recent years, who've amassed large social media followings prior to competing. "First of all and foremost, I'll say it here, no one has ever officially asked me from [production company] World of Wonder.... in interviews I've always said no. Why would I go back to [the training ground of] high school? There's a reason each person won their season. It's a different vehicle. I don't think I'd be cast, I don't think I'd be interested in doing it now, because the game has changed... It's just a different world. So rather than saying I don't get it because I'm old, I'll say it's not for me! I don't think I'd survive this time around!"

Hear Del Rio and Delano spill more season 6 tea above, including their thoughts on Laganja Estranja's wild ride through *Drag Race*, Del Rio's attempts at "sexy" drag, the physical altercation that *almost* happened, and which queen trolled a friend by convincing them *Drag Race* only allowed the cast to eat yogurt during production. And be sure to stay tuned through the very end of the episode for Del Rio's very first "single" as a "recording artist."

The top soccer referee in Africa says he's devastated he won't be able to officiate in the 2026 World Cup after being denied entry into the United States last Saturday.

Omar Abdulkadir Artan was selected as one of 52 referees for this summer's tournament and would have been the first referee from Somalia to take part in a World Cup match.

"I am very, very disappointed," Artan told The New York Times in a telephone interview from Istanbul, Turkey, where he had been diverted after landing in the U.S.

"I'm just simply a referee who's trying to live his dream, the biggest dream of my life, to come to the World Cup."

Artan told The Times he flew to Miami International Airport on Saturday, June 6 − five days before the tournament's opening games. However, he was stopped by U.S. border officials, who took him into a small room and questioned him for 11 hours.

"I had the right papers and everything," Artan said. "I had the right visa."

He said he also showed officials documentation from FIFA, as well as photographs of his career from over a decade as a professional referee, which included being named referee of the year in 2025 by the governing body of African soccer.

Referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan shows Gabon forward Denis Bouanga a yellow card during the Africa Cup of Nations match against Ivory Coast in Marrakech on December 31, 2025.

After the interview ended, Artan said he was moved to a separate holding cell for several additional hours before being put on a flight back to Istanbul.

He said he was never given any reason for being turned away.

Artan was denied entry at the Miami airport because he "was determined to be inadmissible due to vetting concerns," according to a spokesperson from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Somalia is on the list of countries on President Donald Trump's travel ban. FIFA confirmed Artan will not be allowed to take part in this year's World Cup matches.

"FIFA is not involved in host country immigration processes, including visa adjudications, and has been informed by authorities that Mr Artan's status will not be changed at present," a FIFA spokesperson said over the weekend.

"In line with previous FIFA events, a host government ultimately determines who receives a visa and who is admitted into their country."

- Richard Gere is brimming with pride over his son's budding acting career.

- "I can retire now," the *American Gigolo* star recently quipped. "I'm passing the torch."

- His son Homer recently appeared on season 3 of *Euphoria* and will next star on FX's *The Shards.*

Richard Gere is clearing the path for a new generation.

The *American Gigolo* actor recently got candid about the pride he feels over his eldest son's burgeoning acting career.

"I'm proud of him on two levels," Gere, 76, told PEOPLE in an interview published Monday. "One, he's really good. He really kind of preternaturally knows what he's doing."

Gere continued, "But he's also handling it really well. He's a good kid. He's a really good young man who kind of gets it, and this is not an easy job. Not everyone can function within it. So I think he can stay."

Gere's 26-year-old son Homer is hot off the heels of a four-episode stint as Dylan Reid on season 3 of *Euphoria*. Coming up next, the young actor will star alongside Igby Rigney, Kaia Gerber, and Wes Bentley on *The Shard*s, a Ryan Murphy-produced horror series based on a novel by Bret Easton Ellis.

"I still need to see his second episode of *Euphoria*, but he has this big thing coming up with Ryan Murphy, and he just finished shooting a film with Oliver Stone," Gere told the outlet, joking, "So I can retire now. I'm passing the torch."

As for his feelings about having his son follow in his footsteps, Gere noted that the commitment to acting doesn't have to be lifelong.

"I don't think he's got to make a life choice to commit to this if he's doing this now," Gere said. "He's good at it and he's having fun. But he can become a rock climber if he wants to do that."

Gere, who is celebrated for roles in *Pretty Woman, Looking for Mr. Goodbar, Chicago*, and more, added, "I'm still doing it, so it must have been the most powerful choice, but I was also a musician. I was a studio musician and had a lot of other things going on. But acting was the one that kind of brought it all together — my interest in psychology, philosophy, music, art."

While attending the *Euphoria* season 3 premiere in April, Homer told* Entertainment Tonight* that his dad "gives great advice" and has been teaching him the ins and outs of Hollywood for years.

"It's not necessarily related to like the craft, but more like how do you carry yourself, how do you make this work in a positive way," he told the outlet. "Having that kind of sounding board constantly is amazing."

- Hunter Biden has been active on social media after returning to X in May.

- He clapped back at a podcaster who called him an offensive slur while taking aim at his past substance abuse issues.

- The son of former President Joe Biden celebrated seven years of sobriety on June 1.

Hunter Biden has entered the chat.

The son of former President Joe Biden has been extremely online after reactivating his X account. "I'm Hunter Biden. You've never actually heard from me," he wrote on May 18, kicking off his prolific posting.

His content has ranged from all different types, from commentary on current events to responding to trolls who harp on his past substance abuse. Biden has been sober for over seven years.

"Hey guys, Hunter Biden is still a meth head f-----," user Royce Lopez posted on Sunday evening, calling Biden a gay slur. The following morning, Biden corrected the podcaster. "You mean crack head f-----. And all your gym pictures with your greased up muscles are really hot Royce," he quipped.

Days earlier, Biden responded to a post that claimed the bag of cocaine found at the White House while his father was in office — and after the 56-year-old was sober — was his. “It most definitely was not. I would never have forgotten my drugs," he wrote back.

Biden has been incredibly candid about his recovery from crack cocaine use and vocal about it since his return to social media. On June 1, he celebrated seven years of sobriety, saying he was more proud of it than "anything I've ever done in my life."

In an X video shared on Monday, Biden said that in reading social media posts, he was reminded of "one of the most important things of my recovery," which is gratitude. "I used to think gratitude was about being grateful for your day. If it was a good day, [you] woke up and the sun was out, and things were going well."

He continued, "But really, what gratitude's about, is for all of it. The comments on this site remind me of that. I'm grateful for my whole life and everything that brought me here, and given me the opportunity to speak to this many people."

He added, "For that, I'm incredibly grateful. I really am. So, to all of you, everyone here, that's left a comment, no matter how beautiful or how ugly, that's life. In June 2024, Biden was convicted of several felony gun charges after he lied about not illegally using or addicted to drugs when purchasing a gun in 2018, per Associated Press.

“I am more grateful today for the love and support I experienced this last week from [my wife] Melissa, my family, my friends, and my community than I am disappointed by the outcome," he said in a statement when convicted. "Recovery is possible by the grace of God, and I am blessed to experience that gift one day at a time.”

Biden was ultimately pardoned by his father in December 2024 before his presidential term ended.

Madonna/YouTube

- EW breaks down Madonna's six-song short film ahead of her *Confessions II *album release.

- The film is a powerful meditation on the icon's legacy and looks ahead to her future.

- Sabrina Carpenter, Julia Garner, and more appear in celebrity guest spots that cut deeper than the average cameo.

At the top of her new, aptly titled short film *Confessions II**,* Madonna whispers what at first might land as an obvious summary of her four-decade career.

“I can be whoever I want to be,” the 67-year-old queen of reinvention coos while seated at the center of a secluded room, expressing herself behind a closed door. Moments later, chaos — and an army of camera-toting, masked glamazons — descends, capturing her every move from countless angles. In this moment (as it’s done for 40 years), the very nature of who Madonna *wants* to be fractures off into a flurry of tiny shards, morphing in intent and intensity depending on whoever’s watching on the other side of the lens.

Released Monday as part of the ongoing promotional tour leading up to her long-awaited album, *Confessions II* (itself a sequel to her 2005 opus *Confessions on a Dance Floor*), *Confessions II — The Film* is more than just a flashy, star-studded commercial for Madonna’s new material; it’s a powerful meditation on her legacy, her future, and how the world sees her as she reaches a new dawn in a storied life that’s largely played out in arenas beyond her control. From the sex-positive powerhouse of 1992’s *Erotica* to the titular social revolutionary on *Madame X* in 2019, Madonna typically (and carefully) tells us who she *wants* to be with each release. But, by the same token, she’s a pop culture entity rarely afforded the luxury of simply existing as *who* she is, on her own terms — as it’s the public that has, often, decided for her.

*Confessions II — The Film* isn’t an assertion of power over that reality (Madonna spent plenty of time doing that already) as much as it is a self-aware observation* *and acceptance* *of her standing in history, investigating what really matters to her life and legacy. If you believed headlines in the ‘90s, Madonna was too young to be as bold as she was while igniting conversations about sex, intimacy, and LGBTQ rights; now, per ageist detractors, she’s too old to have any perspective at all. And yet, they all show up with a camera, wanting to exact their pound of flesh in the public square.

As the film transitions to its next act, Madonna whispers the lines of *Confessions II* buzz track “I Feel So Free,” admitting, “Honestly, I wish I could be like other people, and just not care. That’s why I like to go dancing. Safety in numbers.” The album’s next tune, “Good For the Soul,” then kicks in, while Madonna traverses a minefield of dancers with lasers firing from their behinds. At the same time, a blinding ray of solar energy emanates from the star’s loins, completing a comical interplay of well-known idioms. Madonna at once dodges the green lasers as if they’ll trip a sensor (essentially traversing a barrage of opinions — after all, they’re like a--holes: everybody has one), but she’s also world-renowned as a goddess. One might even say fans think the blinding sun shines out of her ass. But, who’s to say?

Though she’s often criticized for her being provocative, one thing Madonna can’t be accused of is cutting corners in pursuit of superficial thrills. And yet, as she says in the next line of the film, people still think “dance music *is* superficial,” but counters it with a stimulating thought: “The dance floor is not just a place. It’s a threshold. A ritualistic space where movement replaces language.”

Across her many eras and numerous career evolutions, the unifying thread throughout them all is that, whether it’s “Vogue,” “Music,” or “Hung Up,” people — and the world — *move* to Madonna, whether it’s at a club or amid a cultural shift under her influence.

In the past, Madonna has been the target of criticism for how she’s engaged with up-and-coming artists that clearly owe a debt to her impact — namely Lady Gaga, whom Madonna criticized in 2012 as “reductive” in an infamous interview, after many noted Gaga’s “Born This Way” contained sonic similarities to Madonna’s seminal 1989 tune “Express Yourself.” Over the years, the pair patched things up (they even posed in a loving embrace after Gaga won her first Oscar in 2019). In *Confessions II,* Madonna leans even *more* into embracing artists who walk in her footsteps, as she and pop starlet Sabrina Carpenter join forces for a rendition of “Bring Your Love” midway through the short film.

Carpenter has, like Madonna, weathered a storm of sexist criticism for her recent output — particularly from critics who don’t understand that presentation doesn’t equal advocation, with regard to the star’s tongue-in-cheek, satirical *Man’s Best Friend* album cover that saw her bending down on all fours in front of a faceless man. On “Bring Your Love,” their trajectories meet in the middle of — where else — the dance floor, as Madonna coaxes Carpenter’s own confessions out of her, shrouding her in a protective shield of a lyrical promise of endurance, despite the daggers hurled.

In another one of the sequence’s clever scenes, Madonna literally morphs into actress Julia Garner as she dances in the crowd. Garner is set to play Madonna in her long-gestating, self-directed biographical film, which will see Madonna take further creative control over how her life’s story is presented to the world for the first time in scripted-film form. It’s a nod not only to the project itself, but to the trust Madonna has placed in the Emmy-winning actress, and in us as consumers; this is not just an actress, but the creative vessel through which her story will thrive. The baton isn’t *passed* as much as it’s *entrusted* to artists who directly (Garner) and indirectly (Carpenter) walk in Madonna’s light.

After nearly half a century of titillating pop culture to the brink of its understanding, the most shocking thing Madonna can do, at this point, is be honest about all of this. She nods to her formative years on the New York City nightlife scene in a *Confessions II* sequence soundtracked by album cut “Danceteria,” named after the famed club where she met her longtime friend Debi Mazar (who also cameos) and honed her artistic identity in dance music. In the short film, she also crosses paths with a wealth of talent from across the entertainment spectrum, who all join together in a collective groove inside a grimy bathroom, including model Kate Moss; actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard E. Grant, Odessa A’zion, and Gwendoline Christie; musicians Shygirl, Arca, and Honey Dijon, and performance artist-dancer Prince Lyons, among others. All of this to say, every corner of Hollywood has danced with (or to) Madonna’s beat at some point.

But, the essence of Madonna’s “safety in numbers” mantra boils down to a key element at the end of *Confessions II.* After kicking, punching, and smashing through a screen during a performance of “Read My Lips,” Madonna finds herself back inside the darkly shrouded room in which the short film began.

Now, instead of hunting her down, the hive of faceless, camera-carrying leeches wind down, distracted by other fleetingly enticing vices as they kiss, suck down champagne, and devour bananas — the peels from which they’ve already thrown, waiting (cameras out) for Madonna to slip. And yet they’re still endlessly drawn to the soft glow of Madonna on the TV screen before them.

The film then shifts to show the only unmasked figure in the bunch, revealing that Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes Leon, has emerged through the crowd with the only perspective that matters: “Cut, bitch,” she commands, staring into the camera as the screen goes black under a direct order from Madonna’s flesh and blood, the only meaningful driving presence in the icon’s life.

Leon’s birth in 1996 marked a significant shift in lyrical tone for Madonna, whose next album, 1998’s genre-redefining *Ray of Light*, engaged with existential themes of mortality, spirituality, and the greater cosmos that dovetailed with Madonna’s newfound role as a mother. From gently singing soft-sided affection for Leon on “Little Star” to adopting a reformed outlook on life on “Nothing Really Matters,” Madonna’s creative output has hinged on the latter note for the better part of 30 years: “Nothing really matters. Love is all we need.”

For someone with as tectonic of an impact on life and culture as Madonna, the phrase might register as a tad cliché. But, in *Confessions II*, watching Madonna’s lineage takes the reins grounds it in a reality that’s easier to feel when it’s clear to see.

By the final shot, it’s evident that “safety in numbers,” for Madonna, means she has nothing left to prove. Whether she (or those living in her influence) are swallowed up by a crowd and spat out the other end, Madonna simply “is.” She endures as one woman — *the* woman — running the show. You can dance with her or against her. Either way, her music will play on and on, whether she’s staring down the lens or watching from above.
