Now here's something to phone home about: Drew Barrymore just reprised one of her most iconic roles.

The actress dressed up as her *E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial** *character Gertie nearly 45 years after the film's release as part of an interview with *Project Hail Mary* star Ryan Gosling on Thursday's episode of *The Drew Barrymore Show*.

Barrymore donned Gertie's signature hairstyle while playing a game of "Fast Five" with Gosling and his alien costar from *Project Hail Mary*, Rocky. During the segment, Rocky acknowledged that Barrymore also has a longtime alien bestie of her very own before showing a clip from Steven Spielberg's 1982 sci-fi classic.

As the clip was broadcast onscreen behind them, Barrymore scuttled off the studio couch to grab a Gertie wig and place it on her head. "What is happening!?" Gosling shouted as he watched the transformation unfold.

Upon seeing Barrymore's new look, he added, "No way! Is this really happening!?"

Barrymore took a moment to adjust the wig before proceeding. "It turned into more of Cindy Brady than Gertie," the host admitted, "but we get the gist."

To call Gosling surprised would be an understatement. The actor put his hands to his face and did a genuine double take before confessing, "This is so surreal!"

Barrymore then asked Rocky to ask his next question as she and Gosling burst into laughter over the reveal. And, as it turns out, it wasn't the only E.T. nod of the episode either, as Rocky revealed that he'd created a "gift for friends at talk show."

A capsule was then lowered from the studio rafters, which the pair opened to reveal a flower wand.

The item held special significance for Barrymore in particular. "This is why I love flowers, because of *E.T.* Because the flowers represented his health," she explained. "If they were dying, he was dying, if he was alive, the flowers were erect and abundant and happy."

Barrymore was only 7 years old when she appeared in E.T. as the younger sister of Elliott (Henry Thomas). She later reunited with costars Thomas, Dee Wallace, and Robert McNaughton on her talk show in 2022 to commemorate the film's 40th anniversary.

"I really loved him in such a profound way," Barrymore said of her admiration for the fictional alien. "I would go and take lunch to him."

*Project Hail Mary* is in theaters now. *The Drew Barrymore Show *airs weekdays on CBS.
