Pedro Pascal, Mark Ruffalo, and Javier Bardem have joined several other celebrities in signing a letter demanding that the federal government shut down the Dilley Immigration Processing Center in Texas. There were complaints earlier from the children held in detention with their parents about limited education, "moldy food," and more. The letter emphasized that children belong in "schools and playgrounds, not in detention centers."

Pascal, Ruffalo, Bardem, Jane Fonda, Susan Sarandon, and dozens of other well-known figures have demanded the closure of the Dilley Immigration Processing Center in Texas. They have all signed an open letter condemning the harmful detention conditions in which the children are made to live with their parents. They view it as a breach of "basic standards of health, safety, dignity, and human rights."
The open letter further reads, "Court filings of abuse against children have included refusals to provide clean water, rotten food contaminated with worms, dangerous medical neglect, sleep deprivation, denial of legal counsel, the separation of children from their families, and retaliation against families protesting the inhumane conditions. Children belong in schools and on playgrounds, not in detention centers."
The letter urges the federal government and CoreCivic to close the center and return the kids and their families to their homes and communities from where they were picked. It also protests to stop the imprisonment of children and shows strong condemnation of abuse.

The letter states, "We demand transparency, accountability, and systemic reforms to prevent these abuses from happening anywhere in the United States." The fight to close down the center is also joined by Rachel Accurso, a prominent entertainer who became aware of this situation in February.
She learned about the detention center when the father of a five-year-old in Minneapolis was sent to a prison-like facility. This particular incident also shed light on the living conditions there. According to the figures obtained by court-appointed monitors, more than 2,300 kids were sent into detention with their parents (via NBC News).
